  1. Not until draft night. The hand-wringing over all 4 QBs being gone is a bit overblown. It certainly could happen, but I say the odds that either Lance or Fields is still there is higher than both being gone. That's why we wait. We know Sam's market and we certainly can trade a 3rd.
  2. Something else. I literally just made a mock a little while ago in the draft subforum based on us trading for Darold because the 'big 4' were gone. We are coming away with a QB on day 1 this year; either Lance, Fields, Jones or Darnold (via trade). Bank on it.
  3. Again, the worry warts that say Atlanta is snagging a QB are way off base. It's not completely out of the questions, but it's like a certainty to them. Ryan's contract is an albatross that just can't be glossed over as something trivial.
  4. Yeah, I just mocked this scenario because if 'our QB' is gone at #8, this almost certainly will go down.
  5. Here is my mock v2.0--the top 5 QBs are all gone except Mac Jones in this scenario. The Panthers' war room immediately calls New England to get interest in moving to #8 for Jones. On another phone we are talking to the Jets about a 3rd rounder (#73) for Darnold who just drafted Zach Wilson. Luckily both teams agree. The Panthers get picks #96 and #123 in 2021 from the Pats and also their 2022's 3rd. Later on we trade back again in the 2nd with Ron Rivera and Marty Hurney so they can get QB #6 (too rich in the 1st round) so we recoup the 3rd rounder we just shipped to the Jets. That trade gives them #39 and a player (Marquis Haynes-FA after this season) for their #51 and #82 this year. Here is how this shakes out with the two trades: *Remember, we now have Sam Darnold as our starting QB. #15- (NE) OT Christian Darrisaw- VIrginia Tech (LT) #51-(WFT) G/C Quinn Meinerz- UW- Whitewater #82- (WFT) S Caden Sterns- Texas (FS) #96- (NE) CB Paulson Adebo- Stanford #114- OT Spencer Brown- Northern Illinois (Moton insurance) #123- (NE) DT Tommy Togiai- Ohio State (3-tech) #152 DT Bobby Brown- Texas A&M (1-tech) #194 CB Tay Gowen- UCF #222 DE Cameron Sample- Tulane #227 G/C Ryan McCollum - Texas A&M -After the draft, the Panthers ship Teddy to the Seahawks for a 5th rounder in 2022 to be Wilson's backup.
  6. Thanks. I'm old school. I firmly believe you need at least one true FB on the roster. On goal line I don't think you put a TE back there to be the bulldozer, especially today's TEs who are glorified WRs. I'm actually working on v2.0 right now for this week. This is going to be the far-out mock (worst case scenario) in round one that will jumble up the first two days selections from my norm this year. Next week will be refined, the one I really want to happen and the last one will be the final mock of the year. That mock will be the one I think will actually happen, not necessarily what I really want. The good thing about Marty Hurney was he always drop clues as to his draft crushes, so I was actually able to get really good at mocking the Panthers. With the new management, very little clues so this will be a total crap shoot this year.
  7. To answer the title question--yes.
  8. DT with 3rd round grades: McNeill (late 2nd), Williams, Togiai and Tufele. A couple more are early 4th contenders. So yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing one there. Again, if we traded back we can get two of three between IOL, DT or CB, I would be happy. I'm not sure why you want a LB since we signed several guys in FA. I think the team values veterans in the middle of the defense. Let the young athletic DL get after the QB and let the savvy veterans dictate what happens in the middle of the defense which will, hopefully, keep our mediocre corners from having to cover for very long. The same goes for IOL, they signed several guys so they they wouldn't have to burn a pick there unless the value was too good. You set up the draft through FA. There's no need to double down on positions that spent money to shore up in FA. If there's a center that drops from the 2nd or Mienerz is still there at #73, I would be all for that. However, guard is a nonessential position and the talent level flattens out after the top few prospects. Why spend a 3rd on a OG when you can get the same talent two rounds later? How I feel about the IOL how you do about DTs.
  9. Only 2-3 years away if the coaching staff put training wheels on him i.e. being Captain Clipboard. He only needs to sit a half season or one full season max. Being 3-years out is only if a staff puts him on that time table.
  10. Trey is more athletically gifted, hands down. Yes, both need to work on their mechanics, but Lance's upside is much higher than Darnolds.
  11. Sorry, but no. Immediately better? Sure, but this game is not played for "today", unless you are the Bucs. That would be extremely short-sighted.
  12. I would be completely fine with this. Two things must happen simultaneously: if selection #8 is on the clock and the 'big 4' are all gone, we are on the phone with the Jets for Darnold (assuming they took a QB--Wilson) and we have offers to move back. If this transpires, we take the best OT on the board several picks later to block for Darnold when he gets here. Not the ideal scenario, but a very solid plan 'B'.
  13. Talk about hitting the Power Ball Jackpot!!! The trades probably won't happen, I know. I think I traded back three times. But WOW!!!! I would have a perma-grin for weeks if this was our actual draft. Last mock of the day...know when to stop while you are ahead!
  14. I like this one. I keep trying to trade back in the 3rd, but end up losing out on almost all the players I want, so I stayed put in this simulation.
  15. Sorry, but the first two mocks are 100% pipe dreams. If that were to happen, the curse of the black cat has officially been been lifted. The 3rd one is realistic, but a WR in the 2nd round with all the holes on this roster??? WR is one of the few positions that isn't in need of a major upgrade or requiring added depth.
  16. If Slater or Sewell are there, it's hard to pass up a franchise LT, which we have sorely missed since Jordan Gross retired. I agree though, if the QB isn't there, it's tempting not to just trade back and acquire picks to fill the many holes on this roster.
  17. I can't get on board with that. I would say none in the 1st or 2nd. If I had an ideal round it would be the 3rd. LOTS of value at DT in the 3rd. Honestly I hope we trade back in the 3rd to get an extra pick in the 4th, that way we can target OL AND corner there. Man, I really wish we had an extra 3rd this year. So much value there this year for multiple positions.
  18. LOl! Not at you, at that team. I would love to know (I know you can't divulge though) who that team is so when Lance is a Pro Bowler in a 2-3 years I can laugh at those knuckle-heads.
  19. The fact he stuck around last year tells you all you need to know about our secondary. Never thought Corn was more than a backup nickle.
  20. Nope nope, nope! I'm old school can't stand that WRs all want to wear teens now. The college numbering system is dumb and a small reason why I don't watch more of it. Seeing D-linemen wear single digits and punters wearing 99 rubs me the wrong way much like having sand in my bathing suit.
  21. Whew...and here I was thinking taking 3 OL was going overboard! I agree, our OL has been horrible for a long time, but I'm not certain I would devote most of the draft there. All in all, I wouldn't complain with this draft, especially if a QB isn't there at #8. Yes, I am tempted to double dip at corner too. You and I are in the same boat that Jackson isn't the solution and will be in another uniform once he hits FA. He's not worth a big contract so we might as well back fill from this draft to groom for that inevitability.
