Official Week 18: Panthers @ Buccaneers Gameday Thread
frankw replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
Bucs definitely look like the more motivated team by far. Once again a Dave Canales coached team coming out looking largely disinterested. -

First play made me chuckle. Barely get the play off in time just for a loss. -

Welp it's gonna be a rain game. Looks like 100 passing yards might be a very high bar. -

The Panthers paid Wharton an awful lot of money just to sit on the sidelines. -
Young’s 2025 total passing yards
frankw replied to Youngs Ten Yard Bombs's topic in Carolina Panthers
We all know what Jake was after the elbow surgery. It was bad. It was depressing. No debate there. Let's get into the numbers. Jake Delhomme as a Carolina Panther had 19,258 passing yards on 2,669 pass attempts. In comparison based on his current trajectory it would take Bryce Young roughly 3,295 pass attempts to exceed Delhomme's passing yards. That's 21 more games. Steve Beuerlein as a Carolina Panther had 12,690 passing yards on 1,723 attempts. It would take Bryce 2,151 attempts to exceed Beurlein's passing yards. That's 15 more games. We mortgaged the future and traded away talent in order to acquire Bryce for his abilities to be able to move the ball through the air. He is realistically marginally better than Jimmy Clausen production wise as a passer. If Jake Delhomme was awful based on this set of standards by some Panthers fans then by that warped logic so was Beuerlein. So under that strict criteria what specifically is Bryce Young??? -

Labeling Delhomme awful while simultaneously spending countless hours running cover for Bryce Young is peak unhinged.- 61 replies

I have no idea what CJ Stroud has to do with anything but I'm glad we can agree it is wonderful that Baker stinks. -
The entire hype machine around Bryce Young before the draft revolved around the notion that he would not need elite talent to be a good to great quarterback because he was basically a tiny Peyton Manning and all I've seen in this thread and largely for the last 3 years are woe is me takes about how everyone around Bryce stinks and he needs more help. It's exhausting.

Bryce with a mediocre arm peaked with a really good Alabama team in college and still got shut down by Georgia. https://www.espn.com/college-football/boxscore/_/gameId/401331242#home Take a look at Bryce's stat line in this game and tell me that doesn't look familiar 44 games into his NFL career. 57 attempts just to get over 300 yards 2 picks and 6.5 yards per attempt. The writing on the wall was there for anyone to see.

Even in college statistically speaking Bryce Young was inferior to Manziel V. Young Leinart and Tébow. And he is the smallest starting QB in the NFL.
-
So were Vince Young Matt Leinart and Tim Tébow.

With the right head coach the young talent on this team can compete for the playoffs. -
Johnny Manziel has a Heisman trophy too. Who cares?

Statistically Bryce Young wasn't anywhere near as good as Mac Jones or Tua at Alabama. He had the worst deep passing % of the three of them by a significant margin as well.

If he is actually injured I don't expect the NFL to do anything about it either way. If it were us we'd probably already have been docked draft picks. I didn't think Bowles should have been hired a second time. I thought Arians was largely overrated too. I think the Bucs have been getting by on the talent of that roster and the job their general manager has done. Arians and Bowles each have a ring solely thanks to Tom Brady. -
Bryce Young has had the best coaching top end talent and been afforded every benefit of the doubt his entire life before he got to the NFL. He's never had to face adversity like this. CJ Stroud was basically labeled an ignoramus leading up to the draft. You can fill the entire WR room with burners and it still won't matter if Bryce Young can't stop bailing from the pocket and killing plays and even if he does get the ball out they'll still have to slow up or contort themselves to haul in many of his passes. You guys crack me up.

Most of the talk revolving around Baker's injury is speculation. It wouldn't surprise me if the Bucs have been gaming the injury report but Bowles has already been fired from one head coaching gig. He's decidedly mediocre at best as a head coach. I just don't want to see the Bucs upgrade. But if they do fire Bowles and hire a first time head coach I think things could get bumpy with Baker Mayfield at the helm sooner or later. As far as Coen it's still early. I remember when Brian Daboll was a hot name his first couple seasons with the Giants. Now he's unemployed. It's a marathon not a sprint. We're seeing less and less coaches with true staying power. Or at least certainly less that don't ultimately hit a wall by year 3 or 4. I don't think we're gonna see too many John Harbaugh's and Mike Tomlin's in the coming years. Too much outside noise and too little patience nowadays. -

Bowles is incompetent in his own right but Baker is the same guy he's always been. An arrogant loud mouth who doesn't like to take responsibility when he plays poorly. -
It's wild that guy is even debating this fact. Bryce Young also played under the winningest coach in modern football history who also personally went out of his way to vouch for Bryce. Remove Alabama from the equation altogether and replace it with a smaller school and Bryce Young wouldn't have even been drafted in the first two rounds.

Ex-Panther great Jeremy Shockey on Bryce Young
frankw replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's probably time we talk about this. Yes he can be elusive scrambling at times. But as of lately Bryce has been moreso outright bailing on pockets and in doing so killing plays that might have worked had he stepped up into the pocket. And his reluctance or inability to do so has made it so defenses have begun keying in on that. It's all on the tape and you can be rest assured if we do get into the playoffs whatever team we face is going to follow the same gameplan the Saints and Seahawks followed.- 36 replies
