Official Week 4: Panthers at Patriots Gameday Thread
frankw replied to Captain Morgan's topic in Carolina Panthers
All I ask for today is to give us something worth watching and don't embarrass themselves. -
panthers offense 30 of 32 in yards per play

He's already been up this morning pooing posts in anger. Guy needs professional help legitimately. -
We've had three punts returned for a touchdown in the last 20 years.

Meh. I'm as iffy on Dave Canales as anyone. But it's too early to tell anything either way. Some coaches have started out hot and fizzled over time. Some have started out not so hot and figured it out over time. Then a very select number of others have managed to maintain and stay there. Much of this just boils down to plain luck and circumstances. Revisit this at the end of the year.

https://ftw.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2015/09/13/ted-ginn-dropped-the-easiest-wide-open-touchdown-pass/82002251007/ I must say looking at the level of perfection we expect from our WR's present day it is interesting going back and reminiscing. Ted Ginn Jr was often one of the most frustrating players to watch. He often had some unbelievable drops. And not contested catches either. Just flat out him whiffing on open passes that were thrown on a rope from Cam Newton. And Cam Newton kept going back to him. It made them both better. In the end Newton revitalized Ginn's career. That's what you expect from a first overall pick.

I like Wilks the person but he just isn't it as a coach. I don't necessarily like it either but what are ya gonna do? He's basically a poor man's Ron Rivera and that's being kind. Wilks had a couple nice wins but then he got the doors blown off by the Bengals and then he lost to a rebuilding mediocre at best Steelers team starting Mitch Trubisky in BOA stadium. Those were two things you just can't do. Losing to to Brady with the Bucs didn't help but I wasn't necessarily surprised by that outcome. I cannot say what would have transpired if we decided to make him the head coach going forward. But he probably would have gotten axed too looking at how our ownership has been so meddlesome. Either way it's over and done with. You gotta move on man.

Yeah at this point some of the counter arguments in response to very real issues with Bryce Young that we have all seen with our own eyes are akin to someone believing the earth is flat. You're just never going to get through to someone like that. -
There were a number of factors but I think one that is overlooked is I don't think Baker was in a good head space here. He had just been rejected by the Browns and we were in disarray ourselves with Rhule soon to be on the way out and Fitterer was still our GM. It just wasn't mean to be. But we've also seen brief glimpses of bad Baker. I mean he was god awful when we played them in Charlotte last year. Everyone is back to praising Darnold too. I don't think that's built to last.

This is wading into waters that will rustle jimmies. Ultimately if you are a QB needy team that hasn't had a winning season in near a decade you start with a guy who has the necessary physical traits to largely put the ball where he wants to on any given down and build from there. That's not what the Panthers did.
-
Bryce theoretically could make that throw but he would need a great pocket from which to do it in because he would need to put his entire body into it. Which is what people have been saying about his lack of physical tools working against him. Which is why they brought Andy out to attempt a hail mary. I mean I have to be honest. The fact that anyone is even trying to downplay the significance of that is pitiful and shows how far we’ve fallen as a fanbase.

There's a thread on it. Baker has a legit beef to a point but bringing it up so early in the season kind of out of the blue just makes him look immature.

Xavier Legette has checked out. I see no fight in this manman

The Panthers under the Tepper's put way too much emphasis on marketing and winning social media instead of improving the product on the field. Hell they can't get grass instead of turf right but they're sure eager to hock racoon inspired sandwiches. Shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that this has yielded negative results. -

He's not without blame by any means. But I do agree it would be nice to see better consistent ball placement from the QB position. -
Downplaying Bryce Young's supporting cast at Alabama with Saban as if he was playing with scrubs at some low level school is very amusing but par for the course around here I suppose.

I'm glad to get a look at our young draft picks in Scourton and Princely. But it's disappointing seeing our big FA signings in Wharton and Jones not out there playing on the road. I've seen this story before. As has been throughout weeks 1-3 so far this season this is either going to go really well or really bad.
-
I like what I've seen. But we should be patient. As much promise as they've displayed they and the rest of the DL are going to take some lumps too. And their success is also dependent upon the offense holding up their end of the bargain and not keeping the defense on the field the whole game.
-
For one. That wasn't even in reference to you. For two. I have no idea what you are trying to do here portraying yourself as someone others are scared of which is strange but okay. We're probably the same age. You can get in your feelings and lodge personal attacks all you want. People see you. I already quoted you in a different thread and linked the two threads you've created in the last two years declaring Bryce Young a bust. It is beyond comical that you attempt to put up this facade like you are the only rational voice on Bryce Young. You've engaged in as much foolishness as anyone else on the huddle. Don't twist an ankle getting down off your high horse my friend. I hope you have a great day.

Bryce has expectations the same as Legette. Except Legette does not distribute the ball. Bryce Young was sold as an elite ball distributor. At some point we need to see him elevate the moving parts around him as a first overall pick. Instead of him needing everything to go absolutely perfect around him just to be a serviceable starter. -
I simply do not view Thielen at this point as a needle mover. If you or anyone else disagrees that's fine. That's what this place is for. As far as former Panthers go I can agree we like most other fanbases tend to change our perception. But Luvu is still in his prime. Thielen is not. Again though. It's fine to disagree. He isn't here anymore so it is all just fodder anyways.
-
It's amusing how quickly some folks have moved from telling people to stop talking about Stroud to bringing him up in completely unrelated threads all on their own now. At the end of the day that Texans team still made our offense look putrid back in August. There's a long season ahead. You folks dunking on the Texans may want to buckle up.
-
None of this changes the fact that he is at the end of his career and he's not walking back through the door. Besides. We needed to see Bryce without his crutch. And we have.
-
My personal opinion is I just do not see Adam Thielen representing a major difference in our offense. He has little to no YAC and regardless our QB is not creating big plays. Either way we would still be slogging our way down the field.

Well if we're being realistic the Panthers have been in perpetual free fall since we unceremoniously cut ties with Newton. Unfortunately it all begins with Tepper. And now after Tepper has made an embarrassment of himself for years we give people keys and anoint them this or that before they've really done anything. It's not helpful. But it's also not helpful to seemingly have a different set of standards and apply those unevenly. Realistically the actual face of the franchise should be held to the highest standard of anyone but it seems like that's reserved for everyone else including coaches. It's a recipe for further instability. But let it play out. If we know our Panthers. We know it's gonna be a long season. -
He's at the end of his career regardless of the pieces around him he just isn't a threat. Which defensive coordinators are staying up at night worrying about Adam Thielen?
