Roman Harper thinks Sean Payton could be our next HC now
Cdparr7 replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don’t care about Payton, I would take him over a few candidates but this Ben Johnson kool-aid is ridiculous. It’s worse than the Wilks kool-aid. -

I don’t mind a 2024 1st because that gives us time to recoup it. The Saints are in the shitter with Dennis Allen and a defense with an average age of 47 so I’m not really concerned there. -
I’m not saying Wilks is the answer. I don’t want him. People keep assuming I do because I don’t want Johnson. I just want an OC that has more than one year experience and/or has been apart of some successful groups.
-
Would be surprised if he took that job. I could see him going to Houston before I seen him hanging out with Russell.
-
No, we are the only ones
-
And what connections is Johnson going to have to build his staff? Other guys that have been on all these miserable teams? Kevin Croyle? Mark Brunell?
-
I’m not saying a retread is our solution necessarily. I mean hell, Belichick and Dungy were retreads and went on to win SBs. I just would rather have a coordinator than ran an offense longer than a year or somebody who has been a part of a successful team and not bounced around different positions on sub-500 teams for the duration of their career. I wouldn’t mind Steichen or Kafka. Steichen showed success in LA and now in Philly. Kafka spent time with Reid and the Chiefs. Meanwhile Johnson is hanging out with Adam Gase and Matt Patricia accomplishing Jack Dick.

Because us as a starved fanbase are so eager to have an offensive minded coach that we are willing to hire a FIRST YEAR offensive coordinator from the LIONS who worked under GASE, and has 10+ years of being on losing seasons. Nobody sees any red flags here because “He’s from the Carolinas” and might be the next “Sean McVay”. How many fugging “next Sean McVays” has there been now?? I clearly remember Mr. Scot and everyone else hyping up Nathaniel Hackett last year and that went straight in the shitter. I guess in two years when we have the 10th ranked offense and 32nd ranked defense with consecutive 4-13 seasons we will find the “Next Sean McVay” then.
-
Okay Sean McVay did. Who else did? This league has went crazy trying to find another Sean McVay. Sean McVay is a good offensive coordinator that just happened to have a stellar defense and a front offense that sold the farm to win a SB and they are feeling the pain now. What if there isn’t another McVay, just like there isn’t another Belichick.

Because I’m waiting for some coach to get a completely nasty bag full of money which pisses of the other owners. Then you will have some of the teams that have smaller markets and revenues complain that they can’t compete with franchises like the Cowboys and the Broncos.

I think Evero interviews this week.
-
I’m still waiting on the NFL to create a Coach Salary Cap eventually.

Just not big on Ben Johnson. I think he did a great job in his 1st year (only) as coordinator. But handing him a football team isn’t smart. Like I said yesterday he gives me Adam Gase vibes. HCs he has worked under: Joe Philbin (3.5 years), Adam Gase (3 years), Brian Flores (1 year), Matt Patricia (1 year), Dan Campbell (2.5 years). Has only been on a team that went to the playoffs once, and got smoked. He had been on a ton of losing teams. He is just the hot thing at the moment, remember when Leftwich was the next hot commodity for HC and a year or two later he is canned.

Unfortunately

Won’t have to anyway. They already interviewed Caldwell and Evero is interviewing this week.

Which book is this? This is what I seen last night.

It doesn’t impact us. It comes from the owner.

I was another Rhule season away from checking out like I did in 2001. I didn’t stop liking the Panthers, I just wasn’t interested at all after like week 7 or 8 when we got blown out by the Rams then barely lost to SF. I guess if the team moved I would quit my fandom. I would still watch football but it wouldn’t be the same.

Nevermind

I think that would be the most likely scenario. Peyton will probably push for a veteran QB in his system.
