Screw it man. It doesn't matter what anyone thinks or says. The only thing that matters today is the W and Bryce Young looking like the FUTURE Defense is going to dominate today. Jeremy Chinn will have the best game of his career to date. 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble leading to a scoring drive, and 2 pass deflections. Burns won't have a sack, but will pressure Ridder at least 3 times. Justin Houston however WILL have a sack. Falcons only score 10 points. Panthers score 23 points, not a great offensive performance but good enough. No INTs for Bryce Young, finishes with a 98 QB Rating.

This has been happening for years. David Bakhtiari does it more than any tackle I've ever seen. At this point I'm not sure why people still act surprised it isn't called. Eh, that can only help you so much. You still don't know the route combinations, the run design or blocking design, what drop the QB is taking, etc.

This isn't at all unusual for a 3-4 team. Barno, Burns, Gross-Matos, and Houston can all come down and play down on the line. So saying we only have 5 DL, while technically true, is misleading. We certainly have more than 5 guys that can play on the defensive line. Other 3-4 teams also only have 5 listed DL on the roster. Packers, Ravens, Vikings, Dolphins, Titans. And most of the other 3-4 teams who do have more than 5 listed DL, only have 6. And if a team has 7 (like the Rams), they are running fewer OLBs than us. Patriots are weird in that they have 7 DL and and 5 OLBs... but they also only have 2 RBs on the roster, so maybe teams just build differently than others and that is okay. But there is nothing wrong with only having 5 DL on the roster on a 3-4 team.

Because a player doesn't give a crap about that. To think Brian Burns would magically be willing to take less money if a team never tried to trade for him is dumb as hell. Are you telling me you would accept 7 million less dollars per year if a team didn't try and trade for you? How does that make financial sense to you? Some of you are so upset we didn't trade him that you are saying stuff that doesn't make any sense. Again, no team has reportedly offered 2 1sts for Chris Jones, and yet he's still holding out. It literally makes no difference to the player. Burns was going to keep his eyes on the Nick Bosa situation regardless.

Exactly. The idea that it had any bearing on what Brian Burns is seeking financially is lunacy. Players typically don't settle for less than they think they are worth. Of course Brian Burns is going to push for a deal similar to what Nick Bosa is asking for, because he is the one other edge rusher seeking a contract.

I feel like you are overthinking this. I seriously, seriously doubt a player would somehow take less money because another team didn't offer to trade for them. That just doesn't make a lick of sense. No team has reportedly offered 2 1st round picks for Chris Jones and yet is he looking to settle for less money?

What is the point of drafting good players if you are going to trade them before their 2nd contract, which outside of RBs is usually when you get the best out of said player? The whole idea of it is dumb. Panthers declined the trade because we have no edge defenders and would have ended up investing one of the picks in one anyway. Teams don't often trade 24-year old pass rushers for a reason, unless they demand a trade (ie Khalil Mack). Panthers will get a deal done with him.

Trading Brian Burns is dumb.

You can't let players walk just because they aren't as good as Nick Bosa. And Burns likely hasn't even hit his peak yet.

Brian Burns is so underrated by some posters on this forum. And you know, I get it. He isn't as good as a Nick Bosa, but not many are. However, Burns' productivity and efficiency as a pass rusher at his age is still very damn good. And given his frame and play-style, I am confident that we haven't seen him at his best yet. My comp for him coming out of school was Jason Taylor. Taylor got better and better as he built into his frame and won DPOY in his 10th year. I'm not saying Burns is going to win DPOY, my point is that I would bet on him becoming one of the few pass rushers who every year you pencil them in for 10+ sacks. Taylor didn't have his first consecutive 10+ sack season until he was 29 years old. Like I said, I get it. I'm guilty of not being patient with guys either. But to want to trade Brian Burns or not pay him would be an incredibly short-sighted move. Burns, barring injury, probably has at least 8 more years left of playing this game at a high level and we're on the cusp of a big jump if you look at the careers of a lot of pass rushers, who didn't start stringing multiple 10+ sack seasons until Years 4-6. I don't get why people think it would be wise to move on from that kind of potential, especially at one of the most important positions.

Probably a nothing burger. I doubt Brian Burns waited until now to start his hold out.

Yessir. Bryce is going to win OROY. Defense will finish 9th in the league in points allowed. Passing game will be low-volume, but very efficient and few turnovers. Panthers finish 10-7, good enough to win the division. We will lose in the 1st round but it will be a close-outing and be enough to get Panthers fans more excited for the next season than ever before.

Charles Johnson was a very good player early on. I remember him being one of the most efficient pass rushers in the league as early as 2008. He just didn't get a chance to start until 2010. IIRC 2009 is when he got stanky legged which kind of derailed his season. Hardy wasn't as good as fast but he still flashed a lot of talent, which we knew he had at Ole Miss. Him putting up 10+ sacks in his 3rd year wasn't much of a surprise. I want YGM to do well but he hasn't looked nearly as good as Johnson or Hardy did early on.

Bryce Young is special. Wild that people still doubt him. But that's okay. He'll prove the doubters wrong.

How does him sitting on the bench help? And what makes you think Andy Dalton is more capable of making the team competitive?

Look at this play at :13 The ability to read the field, feel the pressure, slide to his left, still keep his eyes down the field, and side arm a pass in between 2 defenders. It was a close miss because #15 hesitated a bit but plays like that translate, especially as the receivers become more comfortable with Young's style. Also I know he slipped but my goodness that evade at :49. If you aren't impressed by Young then I don't know what to tell you. His game translates to the NFL. There are few exceptions but you want your QB to be a playmaker and that is what he is. I don't know what to expect out of him as a rookie. Not sure his numbers will look great. But if he continues to show traits like this, then there is no doubt in my mind we are looking at our franchise QB.

It is crazy the reactions I am seeing everywhere. Might the Panthers be bad this year? It is possible! But preseason won't tell us that one way or the other. Preseason is meaningless.
