One small nit with this - pretty sure what Wilks meant was PJ is the starter THIS week and after that (i.e. “moving forward”), the position will be evaluated “week by week” in terms of the starter.

Dennis Allen has a career head coaching record of 13-41 (.241). That's actually worse than Rhule's 11-27 (.289). I'll believe it when I see it.

Saints constantly pushing the limit when they have Payton and Brees made sense. You're seeing how dumb that was this season when they're 2-4 with the poo poo platter of Jameis and Dalton at QB. They screwed themselves by trying to free up cap space for Watson when they had to restructure and push a bunch of money into next year's cap and are currently $55m over next year's cap. That's why they had to trade away players like CGJ and will have to cut a bunch of guys this offseason.

Before the season we had Horn, Jackson, and Henderson locked in as the starting CBs. It's a two way street, Bradberry would have to want to come here as well. Just because he took a fairly cheap deal with the Eagles to be a starter on a team coming off the playoffs doesn't mean he'd be willing to take the same deal to be the #3 or #4 CB for a team that was coming off its 3rd straight 5-win season.

You do know that salary cap space rolls over to the following year, right?

Moms are moms, not professional athletes. CMC is a professional and knows this is a business. Anyone is available for the right price. If someone offers the front office what they believe is the right price for CMC, he will be moved. I don't think anyone is going to and I think the Panthers are content to keep him around. We'll know in 2 weeks.

Joe Person put out an article in the Athletic this morning where he asked the beat writers from the 49ers, Bills, and Rams to submit offers for CMC. Here’s what they suggested: 49ers: 2023 compensatory 3rd, 2023 4th Bills: 2023 2nd and Zack Moss OR 2023 3rd and James Cook Rams: 2023 2nd, 2024 3rd Person’s reaction? Not blown away by those offers, so pass on a trade if that’s what’s out there

...without question. You think a guy who's a 6-year vet that's worth a late 1st round pick or 2nd round pick (in your estimation) wouldn't have gotten a 2nd contract? His deal would've been up after his one injury year and it's more than likely teams would write that one year off as a fluke.

I'd prefer if the Panthers went with an offensive mind for this HC hire. I think it's long past time we try someone from that side of the ball to lead the team. And that's with me really liking candidates like DeMeco Ryans and Raheem Morris. It seems we're finally going to take our medicine and draft a rookie QB and it'd be best to keep that QB paired with a play caller for the duration of his career, if he's as good as being picked in the top 3 would merit. If we hired a DeMeco Ryans and he brings along an OC that makes a Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, or Will Levis look great year 1, you run the risk of that guy being scooped up as a HC himself. I really like what Steichen has done with Herbert and Hurts in limited time, and I also like what Waldron is doing this season with Geno, and Ben Johnson with the Lions offense. Like I said, yes, these could all be one season wonders, but that's just the nature of the business. You interview folks and make an educated choice, but at the end of the day any HC hire is swinging for the fences - more often than not, you're going to strike out.

Isn't it common sense then that CMC would have more receptions if he has more receiving yardage? Why'd you then say he only has more receiving yardage because he's used as a receiver more as a knock but didn't mention him having less rushing yards because of less rushing attempts? I guess I'm just confused as to why you think one point is a knock against CMC while the other is...also a knock against CMC?

Well considering he's only 26 years old and barely has any wear on him for the past two years, yeah I think he will be productive when we're back in the playoffs. As teams like the Giants and Dolphins are showing, all you need is the right combination of coaching staff and decent QB play to be one year away from playoff contention.

You say he's done better catching the ball because he's "used more that way" but conveniently leave out that "of the dozen guys with more production running" 8 of those 12 have more carries than he does. Feels like you're cherry picking stats to support your point. You didn't care to respond to the earlier post showing he's 4th in total scrimmage yards so far this year either.

I actually think Cam Erving is a decent candidate to get dealt. Lots of tackle injuries out there, I can definitely see a team like the Broncos or Rams sending a 5th or 6th round pick for him.

The production isn't there this year? I mean he's on pace for 1,900 total yards playing in one of the worst offenses we've seen in years.

There's nothing inherently wrong with Shaq - I just don't think he's a difference maker in the mold of Kuechly or Thomas Davis. I think he's a fine off ball LB that can flash occasional greatness, but I think his best years are behind him. My gut says if he's not willing to take a pay cut, I wouldn't be surprised given the cap issues for 2023 if the FO decides to move on and replace him with a draft pick or an average FA LB.

I think the issue is all the "hot" offensive minded coaches are young and relatively inexperienced. I would be fine with any one of Waldron, Dorsey, Steichen, or Ben Johnson, but I also understand all of these guys relatively inexperienced and no guarantee to pan out. Offensive minds that are experienced are the aforementioned Roman, Eric Bieniemy, or a guy like Bill O'Brien who's currently OC at Alabama (and I don't think Tepper is reaching into the college ranks even if it's for a former HC).

It sounds like you want someone who's on the offensive side of the ball but has spent multiple years as an OC for different franchises. Honestly the only guy I can think of that fits that mold is Greg Roman. 4 years as OC at SF, 1 year as OC in Buffalo, in his 4th year as OC in Baltimore. I wouldn't necessarily be against that sort of hire, but I also wouldn't be impressed or thrilled with it.

How do you define who is a "good offensive mind at OC but also prime HC material"? And would this be how you were describing Daboll if, say, he started 0-2 rather than 2-0 because of a missed Titans FG in Week 1 and a dropped Luvu pick 6 in Week 2?

Huh? Seattle is tied for 1st in the NFC West, Geno Smith is ranked 4th in QBR, and the Seahawks are ranked 9th in the NFL in PPG and 4th in Offensive DVOA. I'd be happy with Waldron.

The WR room is not bad. DJ and Robbie each had 1,000+ yards with Teddy Bridgewater. DJ had 1,000+ with Sam, PJ, and Cam last year. The QB and the OC are horrendous. If Daboll and Mike Kafka can get offensive production from Daniel Jones and a WR room that includes *checks notes* Richie James, David Sills, and Darius Slayton, I think a competent offensive minded coaching staff can do a lot more with DJ, Shenault, TMJ and Shi.

A base salary restructure means we take DJ's 2023 salary of ~$19.5m and bring it down to the vet min and pay him the difference as a bonus that's prorated over the remaining years of his contract. He doesn't lose any money, in fact he gets it quicker. And the only move I made that takes someone off the roster is letting go of Shaq, which for better or worse, I believe is 100% happening. The leaders of this defense will be Chinn, Burns, Brown, and Horn going forward anyway.
