David Newton's "cryptic" comment got me to thinkin
LinvilleGorge replied to MHS831's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'd rather draft almost anyone at #6. If it's between Pickett and Willis, just draft Willis. Draft the guy with the talent to do something. I think Willis will likely bust, but at least he has the raw talent to work with. Pickett has a very limited ceiling. Remember Teddy when you're looking at Pickett. They're basically the same player. -

That's my point. I think Jones is basically that. -

He should be well ahead of most college QBs in those regards. He's been playing college football a lot longer. He was in the same recruiting class as Tua Tagovailoa to put it in perspective. Tua has already played two NFL seasons. -

Maybe. Or maybe he learned his lesson. We'll see. I just think very little of these "muh system" coaches who can't adapt to the talent on their rosters. -

Watch Burrow at LSU then watch Pickett at Pitt. Wildly different. Burrow's ability to throw on the move is elite. The guy can deliver the same ball no matter what. Clean pocket, falling away, running for his life, it doesn't matter. He throws the same ball. It's wild. What changed at LSU was the offense. Over one off-season they went from running an old school 1970s offense to running an actual modern offense. Combine that with elite talent and you had one of the best college offenses of all time. -

Because all Cousins cares about is taking care of his stat sheet and that's why his teammates don't like him. -

Pickett and Herbert are opposites. I didn't like Herbert because of how Oregon used him. They didn't trust him to read the field and they took the ball out of his hands in key situations. If they didn't trust him, why should an NFL team? Well, turns out they were morons. Herbert had every physical tool you could want. Honestly, physically he was basically a bigger armed version of Trevor Lawrence. Pickett is average to below average in every category for an NFL QB. Height/weight is pretty much the only box he checks. -

People are ready to crown Jones but I think he is what he is. I always said his ceiling is Kirk Cousins. That's the path he's on. It's not like he lit the world on fire. Hell, he looked terrible against us. None of the hordes of Pats fans sitting around me we're ready to call him the QB of the future. I loved Wilson and we'll see how he pans out. I never liked Lance. -

Always possible. But the odds are stacked against Pickett. He was nothing in college until he was 2-3 years older than his competition and playing on a good vet team in a down ACC. Do the math. It's not the player, it was the situation. -

No. He's a threat to my Panthers if we draft him. I'm honestly hoping for Howell to end up with the Steelers. That's his best opportunity IMO. -
It has been rate in the past but damn if it isn't happening a lot recently. Maybe it's an anomaly or maybe it's the new trend. We'll see.

The overall roster is in a much better place. We still need a QB (and a coach) but if you fire Rhule after this year and hire a legit coach you're basically in the Broncos' situation where you have all the pieces in place minus a QB and then you're in a position to actually lure in a legit vet looking for a fresh start.

I don't even think it's close. I honestly have no idea how anyone watches these two QBs and convinces themselves Pickett is a better prospect. Put Pickett on UNC's team last year and he's a UDFA. Straight up. -
Yep. The furniture and textiles industries leaving left this area gutted of good blue collar jobs. The same story is prevalent all across America. The area is making a big comeback focusing more on tourism and attracting the folks looking at Asheville and balking at the prices. The problem is that tourism driven jobs don't pay. All the good middle class blue collar jobs have been replaced with $10-12 an hour type jobs. The old Henderson plant site is a prime example. That plant used to support a lot of good paying blue collar jobs that supported a lot of local families. It's been replaced by a shopping center. Wal-Mart, Dick's, PetSmart, TJ Maxx, etc. The managers of those stores make decent money but everyone else is making $10-12 an hour.

Drafting Kenny Pickett is the draft equivalent of what we've been doing acquiring veteran QBs - basically panic overpaying for trash.- 102 replies

Favre was driven by revenge in Minnesota. That's where he wanted to go and the Packers blocked him and sent him to the Jets. He spent his year in exile then came back and had one of the best years of his career.

Kenny Pickett > Malik Willis (at least for us)
LinvilleGorge replied to janderson20vt's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't need to check out his draft profile. I watched him play a lot of games. He was just a guy who's the same age as most second or third year NFL players playing on a pretty good veteran college team. He was literally a man vs. boys. He'll look like he did earlier on his college career when he's playing against fellow men. -
Yep, it was Jets first then Vikings.

I wanna know what cocktail they have that dude on.

Thoughts on putting Cam behind this line?
LinvilleGorge replied to RumHam's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'd rather do that than play Darnold or draft Pickett.
