Deshaun Watson won't face criminal charges
LinvilleGorge replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Then she should've had the guts not to bring it before the grand jury. This was a cop out. "Oh look public and media, I tried." Yes, she knows she's highly unlikely to get a conviction but she punted in front of the grand jury so that she could still claim that she tried to seek justice when anyone who knows anything about the grand jury system knows that a prosecutor has to go in front of the GJ with the intention of not securing an indictment in order to actually not secure an indictment. -

It's not a conspiracy theory. Here, read if you actually care. https://www.pooleshaffery.com/news/2014/december/a-crash-course-in-the-american-grand-jury-system/ Literally all the prosecutor had to do was put a single accuser on the witness stand to accuse Watson of having committed a crime against her and Watson would have been indicted of that crime. Period. End of story. The prosecutor basically had to tell the grand jury that there was no chance in hell of getting a conviction. -

You don't know what you're talking about. Go look it up. Grand juries indict 99% of the time. Have people accusing you of having committed a crime against them is more than enough to secure an indictment. The prosecutor punted. -

Absolutely. It's extremely easy for a prosecutor to secure an indictment. Basically present anything. The slightest shred of evidence. You pretty much have to intentionally throw the case not to get an indictment. Grand juries return indictments literally 99% of the time. -

A prosecutor can get an indictment on a ham sandwich. But a prosecutor can also intentionally put forth a very flimsy case to a grand jury on a high profile public case that they know they probably can't get a conviction on so they can tell the public and media "aw shucks, I tried". -

Edited thread title for clarification. We should see a resolution to all this trade speculation pretty quickly now. -
Just not enough to win in the NFL... or actually beat good teams at the college level for that matter.
-
Stidham was a good college QB and a 4th round pick. I'll give him that. Stidham wasn't a bum. Bo Nix was a bum though.
-
Barrett and Haskins weren't bums in college though. That's what y'all are missing. Willis was gonna be kept on the bench at Auburn by a bum.

This I definitely agree with. I just think you're vastly overvaluing Taylor and Henderson. Pride honestly looked bad. Like not NFL roster quality bad. Henderson is trending pretty hard toward outright bust. Without Bouye, we basically only have one "proven" NFL outside CB and that's a huge reach of a statement considering Horn only played in three games as a rookie and is coming off a season ending injury.

There are always three groups of NFL teams in terms of the QB market. 1. Teams who have an elite QB. 2. Teams who have a guy they are confident can become an elite QB. 3. Teams that are (or should be) shopping for a QB.

Tepper hired a private investigator to look into Deshaun Watson
LinvilleGorge replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
If I'm a team moving on Watson, I'm trying pretty hard to make the Wilson deal the ceiling. On the flip side, I'm sure the Texans are trying to make that the floor. -

Okay, playing devil's advocate what's your plan of building a winner post-2022 after trading away multiple 1st and 2nd round picks as well as a couple of key young starters? -
Whole lot of Deshaun Watson chatter happening out there
LinvilleGorge replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah, I have to think of a deal for Watson was on the table they would've hung onto Wagner. -

I think the overall roster is better than most think. Add an elite QB and a couple of legit starting OL and you have a playoff team. Of course, we're going to lose Reddick, Gilmore, and Jackson so the D very well may take a step back but the offensive skill positions are pretty darn good. The problem with trading for Watson is that you're going to have to give up some good young pieces, a ton of draft capital, and give up a lot of cap space. By fixing your biggest hole you've pretty much condemned yourself to having an overall heavily flawed roster for years to come. -

I'm just not sure at all how Carolina would both offer an "embarrassment of riches" for Watson AND convince him to come here. It would be his Texans' situation all over again - elite QB surrounded by straight trash. That's without even getting into the concerns about the staff and an owner who very well may be completely clueless on how to run a football organization. It's a lot of hurdles to overcome. At the end of the day, I suspect that much like the Lions likely did with Stafford, our offer will just be used to get better offers out of the actual contenders. -
Truth.
-
It's Willis or Pickett. The scouts will like raw Willis' talent. Rhule will like that he recruited Pickett and Tepper will like that he went to Pitt. This is how decisions are made in clown world.
-
Tunnel? Sir, that's a cliff up ahead.
-
We're probably gonna lose Gilmore and Jackson ourselves.
-
It's a premium price for a QB who is washed.
-
Was he third string? Jarrett Stidham is definitely no The Golden Calf of Bristol. He wasn't even a Fromm. Bo Nix was trash and that's the guy who ultimately made Willis transfer. Willis couldn't beat out Bo Nix.
-
I think the point here is that they gave up 2nd and 3rd round picks for a QB who looks washed. You're not giving up 2nd and 3rd round picks to rent a guy for a season. Giving up that kind of premium capital the least they could've done was forced Washington to eat some of the contract.

Let me state this very clearly. FUG Florio.
