A 3rd round comp pick for a 24 year old MVP winning QB? Yikes. Nah, they'd trade him for a very significant haul. The only reasons I'm saying they should consider it is 1) his heavy running style will likely eventually lead to injury issues and 2) his trend of poor playoff performances is becoming concerning.

Man Sacrifices Brownies to Save Wife From Rabid Bobcat
LinvilleGorge replied to Dex's topic in Huddle Lounge
And here I thought the video was going to show a man throwing young Girl Scouts to the mercy of a rabid wildcat allowing his wife to escape unscathed. -
I've seen UNC WR Dazz Newsome mocked in the 6th a lot. That'd be a steal. Think Curtis Samuels type versatility without the world class speed but with more polished route running skills and much better natural hands.

Same ultimate decision maker on paper.

Apparently these were almost our uniforms

Honestly, it's always a terrible time for fashion. Being super fashionable and trendy at any given time just means you're going to have some really cringe worthy photos down the road. -
The Jimmy Johnson Trade Value Chart
LinvilleGorge replied to theinstrumental's topic in Carolina Panthers
Recent trades at the top of the draft have been blowing traditional draft pick value charts out of the water. IMO, the new rookie wage scale has drastically altered the value of those picks. You're no longer paying those guys as if they're one of the best players in the entire league before they step foot on an NFL field. For the talent level, you're getting tremendous cap value out of those picks while also not mortgaging the future of your franchise by saddling yourself with tremendous cap liabilities on a talented, albeit unproven NFL prospect. -
Wildly inaccurate, especially in today's NFL. The nickel D is the defacto base defense in the modern NFL. Oftentimes in a nickel formation their is no "middle" LB. Even in a 4-3 formation you have over and under formations with the LBs shaded toward one side or the other. In a 3-4 alignment, there are two MLBs. Who's your Mike? It's all about the checking the OL protections.

The only reason he has less risk is because there's less investment. There's a higher likelihood of a high draft pick working out versus a former high draft pick bust. The successful bust reclamation projects are few and far between indeed.

Carr was just the first name that popped in my head. Did Jamarcus Russell go into any better of a situation? The Lane Kiffen era of the late Al Davis reign was a poo show for the ages. Did Blake Bottles go into any better situation? How about Trubisky playing for Adam Gase Jr.? How about Baker Mayfield who has had four head coaches in three seasons? If you're a top pick, odds are you're walking into a poo show and they're hoping you're a big part of what's going to turn that poo show around. You either become a part of the turnaround or you become a part of the ongoing poo show.

LTs & arm length (basically: This draft's OTs are great but...)
LinvilleGorge replied to saX man's topic in Carolina Panthers
Sure. It's better to have longer arms. If an edge rusher has longer arms than the OT he can better keep them from engaging him, but none of that comes in into play unless the OT has the feet to stay with him to begin with. It's kinda like how yeah, ideally you'd have a WR who was 6'2"+ and 210+ but would you pass up a Smitty because he didn't check those boxes? Some teams would. Those teams are dumb IMO. Prototypes exist for a reason, but you gotta evaluate each individual prospect IMO. -
LTs & arm length (basically: This draft's OTs are great but...)
LinvilleGorge replied to saX man's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's important, but I'll take great feet with mediocre arm length all day everyday over 35" arms and mediocre feet. If you don't have the feet to stay in front of a guy two inches of arm isn't going to help you.- 42 replies

Quite a bit. If it didn't there would be no reason to call out the mike.
-
That's my issue. Yeah, I think he'll improve but there's a massive gap between what he's been and where he needs to get. I just don't see it happening.
-
If we've done our homework on Fields and we don't like him then it is what it is. Then again, we did our homework on Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Darnold too, so... oh wee mayne.
-
Ironically, Humphries hasn't done much of anything away from Jameis. Howard was putting up similar numbers with Brady before getting hurt. Godwin had an elite year with Jameis in '19. He was having a decent year with Brady but his numbers were down pretty big. Meanwhile, Robby Anderson just had his career high yardage with Teddy Bridgewater. Jameis Winston is basically a big time QB but with a big time turnover problem to match. Darnold hasn't shown he can put up numbers like Jameis and his TD:INT ratio is even worse.
-
Picking up the 5th year option prior to the draft would just be dumb. Keep your options open. Darnold is insurance in case QB at #8 doesn't work out and honestly, I doubt it will and that's why the trade was made.
-
What top 3 draft pick ever goes into a good situation? It's always an uphill battle. The good ones find a way.
-
It's possible, but so far Darnold has basically been Kyle Boller 2.0.
-
#1 on the list... I desperately want the stat to be dumb because I desperately want Darnold to be the answer. Let's be real, we'd be laughing our asses off if we still had a healthy Cam (or any good QB for that matter) and a desperate flailing division rival made this trade and hitched their wagon to Sam Darnold and for good reason.

Matt Ryan was kind of the opposite story as a prospect. Jones has been surrounded by the finest supporting cast in college football. Matt Ryan pretty much single handedly made those BC teams relevant. His supporting cast sucked.

It's about defensive alignments and blocking assignments. The "mike" isn't always the MLB given the defense's alignment on a particular play.
