Eliminate the first round in your heads. Do it now! To me, the focus for real Panther fans begins with picks 39, 93, and 114 --that will ultimately determine the quality of his draft. This got me to pondering. As I pondered, I asked myself, "Who are the 13 best Panther VALUE picks ever?" I am excluding first rounders because they should perform at the highest levels. Some were good players, not great, but you must consider the round the player was taken vs. his productivity here in Carolina. I could have added Evan Mathis, for example, but he was not productive until he left Carolina, so he did not make the list. Several Key Takeaways: 1. Finding talent on day 2 is harder than it looks in mocks. Most of those players do not pan out. To think we can fill 5 holes on draft day is silly. 2. Bill Polian may have found us a path to the Super Bowl by manipulating the expansion provisions, but he SUCKED in the draft. 3. Marty Hurney was actually good at one time. The 2001 (he was with the organization but not GM until 2002) and 2007 drafts were incredible. 4. Once you look through these drafts and see the elite players that emerged from rounds 2-7, it should give you perspective. So if we had 1 need to fill in this draft, where should it be? Edge? CB? WR? G? I think we'd be lucky to find a QB and fill 2 needs effectively. 5. Check out the 2001 draft--Morgan, Jenkins, Smith---sure does explain the 2003 Super Bowl--the 2007 draft with Beason, Kalil, and Charles Johnson was also strong--If Jarrett became a stud, it would have been the best draft. 6. FIve of the 13 were offensive linemen. Just sayin'.

Every player comes with risk. Bresee has a great story (sister-tragic) but he was injured quite a bit.

It will be interesting to see if he has dropped a few pounds, or maybe they are going to use him on running and short yardage situations. He does seem to be an "odd man out" in many ways. However, maybe he was the "odd man out" before, because he was not very productive, save a few flashes here and there.

If the Panthers announced the pick, it would be stupid. There are many signs that suggest he is the pick, based on those comments. But I appreciate the fact that you bring up some points/possibilities that are not being considered because they Bryce Blinders have been on for a while. Good post.

I like Ojulari or OLB Drew Sanders at #39. Either one is fine. Terrell Smith is a sleeper at CB who (I think) will be drafted earlier than many mocks suggest This is very similar to the players that I cannot pass on when mocking--so I have to approve.

I see Ringo as a solid pick. I prefer Drew Sanders because he can play OLB vs. the run, rush the passer, and cover. He can be moved inside and pressure the passer. He gives the DC a lot of options. Throw him in with Luvu and Chinn, we are pretty dang versatile. Not sure he will be there. I get the rest of his picks too, but I would not add another #3/4/5 WR to the mix. We have a stable full of those. There, I would add a G to go with the OT. Nothing wrong with adding 2 OL. I might also add a TE, but I really do not think they will go with a WR or TE in this draft. I think it will be OLB/Edge, CB, and OL. If we can address those 3 areas, I am a happy camper.

This is the key point. The draft is weak at WR, so was free agency. They needed a #1. Look at the situation we are in--same deal.

We are picking Young. And when that pick comes in, please start a thread about the new team you are going to root for, because I doubt people want to deal with you every time our QB gets hit or has a turnover over the next decade. There might be 2 or 3 QBs in next year's draft who will become starting material. Two or so will bust. There will be 8-12 teams who will be looking for a QB. So you waste a year waiting for a 25% chance of drafting a QB that has a 50% chance of being successful? The guys seem better now because they have not been scrutinized like this group has been--yet. S2 scores, measurables, tape, combine, interviews, etc. To the main point: the NFC South is ripe for the picking NOW. THIS year. Anyone in the NFC South planning for next year when they have the pick of the litter NOW should be tried and convicted of committing a felony and fraudulently misrepresenting the fan base if they make moves to have a chance to draft the 2024 QBs
