  1. In my opinion, RBA probably had several reasons for playing Laff. Raanta may not be back to 100%, Freddie was not ready after a late night and there was probably a belief the Canes could beat a bad NJ team despite the back-to-back, late night, screwed up travel, etc. But starting a rook in his first game has its own challenges. The most important being his time in net. I get it- you could forever screw his head up after he gives up 5 and you pull him. Sometimes you just have to let him get his initiation and go through this, win or lose. Today, we're 2 points behind the Rangers, but they have 2 more losses and we have 4 games in hand. 5 games in hand with Tampa Bay and 3 with Florida- both of them are at 61 points.
  2. Reassign this kid tomorrow. Made it an easy W for NJ. Off to watch the Packers. See you guys soon.
  3. Does this mean we're being treated to live sex on TV tomorrow when Jim Nance and Tony Romo suck TB12's dick for about 3 hours?
  4. Yeah, this kid has a long way to go. But the whole team is a half step slow tonite.
  5. A bad team ringing up 5 on the Canes. Kid's trial by fire, or...?
  6. Not impressed in the least. 2 from the middle of the ice with no one in front and laterally, he's slow as hell. Not ready. Can Raanta play or will they let this kid go the distance regardless?
  7. NJ has a rookie in goal also. Gullies making the start at 0-2-1 for NJ.
  8. TRACKING THE STORYLINES: About Last Night: Just like their 7-1 victory Tuesday in Boston, the Canes got off to a strong start Friday versus New York. Carolina held the Rangers to just four shots in the opening 20 minutes, suffocating them with a possession-based attack. Vincent Trocheck and Seth Jarvis helped their team establish an early lead and then thanks to Frederik Andersen they were able to hold off a few pushback attempts. Eventually Jesper Fast, Sebastian Aho, Nino Niederreiter and Tony DeAngelo were able to also crack Alexandar Georgiev and the Canes moved to the top spot in the Metro. Same-Day Travel: The Canes were supposed to head straight from PNC Arena to RDU Friday night, however, the airport was closed due to weather conditions after a plane went off the runway just hours earlier. So, the players and staff returned to their North Carolina bases and the team instead is scheduled to fly to New Jersey this morning. Tony's Tear: Tony DeAngelo had three points in last night's victory over New York, just as he did Tuesday night against Boston. With those six he's now upped his season total to 31 points in 30 games, pacing all Canes defenseman. That total also has him ranked seventh in the NHL among all defenseman in points per game played. Lineup Options: Post-game Friday Rod Brind'Amour did not commit to a starting goaltender for tonight. With Frederik Andersen having played in the win over the Rangers, logic would suggest that it would either be Antti Raanta or Jack LaFontaine. Raanta, who has made his way back from an upper-body injury, backed up Tuesday in Boston. LaFontaine, who has yet to make his first NHL start, backed up last night against New Jersey. Beyond goaltending, the status of Teuvo Teravainen, who left after two periods last night with a lower-body injury, is unknown. He may play tonight, but if he does not, Stefan Noesen, is available from the team's Taxi Squad.
  9. TT out for the rest of the game. Hopefully just a precaution.
  10. Here's the part when the Canes just stand them up at the blue line for 20 minutes. No penalties!
  11. Tripper did a great analysis of Nino's goal, showing the Rangers cheating both posts when 37 was showing lacrosse, leaving Nino alone on the doorstep.
  12. How can you get a hooking call with your stick on the ice?
  13. Svech isn't done with Trouba. He called him out from the bench.
  14. Need to get 1 more here. Get back to a 3 goal lead going to 3rd.
  15. And given Philadelphia has already publicly committed to Jalen Hurts as their guy... https://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2022/01/19/jalen-hurts-eagles-starting-quarterback-nick-sirianni-howie-roseman/ PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Jalen Hurts has shown the Eagles enough to come back as their starter in 2022, at least that is what general manager Howie Roseman and head coach Nick Sirianni said Wednesday. Time will tell if Hurts comes back as the team’s clear-cut No. 1 QB, or if Roseman brings in another quarterback to compete with the third-year signal-caller or even acquires an established star, but as it stands three days after the Birds’ season ended in Tampa, the 23-year-old is in the team’s plans for 2022.
  16. This is going to come back at some point and the league will say, "Remember when you only played 3 games in 3 weeks back in January?" They do have 2 3-day breaks in March, though. Mar 6 at home v. Seattle - Mar 10 at home v. Colorado Mar 13 @ Pittsburgh - Mar 17 @ Toronto But then they have to fly home and play Washington on Mar 18. That's just bad schedule writing there. Kinda like this weekend when they play the Rangers tomorrow night then fly to NJ for a Saturday night game.
  17. The Canes were originally scheduled to play 2 games in February, both at home on 2/25 and 2/27. For some reason, the league thought it would be a good idea to reschedule the Canes final game of the season at Pittsburgh to February 20 and create a back-to-back @ Pittsburgh and Philly the next day. Thanks for that. Hurricanes’ revised February schedule Feb. 7 — at Toronto (initially set Jan. 3), 7 pm. Feb. 8 — at Ottawa (Dec. 23), 7 pm. Feb. 10 — at Boston (Dec. 21), 7 pm. Feb. 12 — at Minnesota (Dec. 14), 7 pm. Feb. 16 — Florida (Dec. 27), 7:30 pm. Feb. 18 — Nashville (Dec. 19), 7 pm. Feb. 20 — at Pittsburgh (April 29), 1 pm. Feb. 21 — at Philadelphia (Jan. 11), 3 pm Feb. 25 — Columbus, 7 pm. Feb. 27 — Edmonton, 1 pm.
