  1. Hoping for the best with him. He's been through some tough times and I hope he finds himself in a place he wants to be, and around people who want to be with him. We were only fortunate enough to see just a glimpse of what he's capable of as a hockey player. The emotion and fire he brings to the ice is a likely contributor to his issues, but here's to his health and well-being.
  2. You obviously did not see the Brady Roast on Netflix
  3. Arbitration dates run from July 20 - Aug 4. Arbitration can be avoided by either a deal being struck with the team owning his rights or a trade.
  4. TDA remains unsigned as of yesterday. It was reported in May he was going to require hand surgery in the off-season. Not sure if that's done, but he is not under contract with anyone. With only 6 blue-liners under contract and 21 of 23 slots filled on the active roster, he may be back on a 1-year deal. Unless Morrow cracks the lineup. He has a 2-way and would save some cap space. Not much, but some.
  5. To be honest, the only person to make any inference that he didn't want to be here was his dad. Martin has never said he didn't want to be here, nor has he mentioned anywhere else he wanted to play. If his arbitration award is a 1-year deal, I expect Carolina will trade him at the TDL, depending on the season results. If he gets a 2-year deal, he may end up staying for a bit. I, for one, don't have a problem giving him a shot playing 2C with Kuz on the wing. Keep Jarvy on the Aho line. I think Kuznetsov is a bigger scoring threat on the wing.
  6. The key word being "had," as in, past tense. In other words a trade & sign deal, if you will, wasn't going to happen and, therefore, was not beneficial to Columbus, Buffalo or Winnipeg.
  7. https://thehockeynews.com/international/latest-news/martin-necas-im-ready-for-anything A restricted free agent, Martin Nečas has been the focus of trade rumors the entire off-season, and now he has elected for salary arbitration. When he was in Prague a couple of weeks ago for the Golden Hockey Stick (Zlatá hokejka) awards, Czech journalists asked him about the situation. He shed some light, or as much as he could, on what some of his issues were with the Carolina Hurricanes and how negotiations were going. “We talk about it every day, we are in contact with them,” he said back on May 24. “I hope it goes well for both me and the club. Either we continue together and it will be the best. Or I go somewhere else, but in that case, I hope we don’t part on bad terms, but in a good way.” One of the interesting things that Nečas revealed about negotiations is that, in addition to his agent speaking to Carolina management, he has been throughout this process in regular contact with owner Tom Dundon. “It’s like that with us – I don’t think many NHL teams have this – that we talk directly to the owner. The owner calls me,” he said. “But, of course, contracts are handled by the agent.” One of the sticking points in Carolina seems to be Nečas’ desire to have a larger role on the team, but this past season saw his ice time and usage in key situations, such as on the power play, reduced. “Yeah, it’s not ideal,” he responded when it was brought up. “There are coaches who set those things up, and they decide which players to use. I was not among the key players. I would like to improve that in the future, both from my point of view and overall. I know that in these situations I feel the best on the ice and I would like to play in them, but I have to earn it and I hope that happens.” Asked about the possibility of a trade, he answered, “I’m ready for anything. Carolina has my rights and I don’t know what will happen. They know my position, so we’ll see. I'd like to say more, but I can’t. Maybe we’ll find out in a few days or weeks.” The days and weeks since have revealed that not much has changed. Apparently, he was very close to being traded to Columbus during the draft in Las Vegas, but that fell through because Nečas refused to sign an extension there. That would seemingly indicate that, at the very least, he doesn’t see remaining in Carolina as the worst possible outcome.
  8. No, Guentzel and his agent knew Carolina was just a layover on his journey to a team who will get to the playoffs consistently. His contract is very similar, but he's really making a couple mil more with no taxes in Florida. Just go out and beat Tampa next season. Each of the 3 times they play.
  9. He may be Jordo's replacement answer, for the time being. I honestly thought Staal would retire after the season.
  10. Roslovic played center more with the Rangers after they got him and he played better there than on the wing in Columbus. He also had a pretty decent post-season with the Rags. 8 pts in 19 regular season and 8 pts in 16 post-season games. Given he had only 39 pts the whole season... But yeah, he's an expensive 4th line guy.
  11. This does not bode well for Necas or Drury, I'm afraid. Roslovic was making $4M AAV in Columbus and NY the last 2 years. Canes gotta unload someone to sign Jarvy, and I don't even know what Roslovic is getting from the Canes.
  12. And, with your proposed lines, Drury needs to have a true breakout year, KK needs to live up to his salary and the team will need a way to win 1-goal games.
  13. Tough losing some of the guys, but letting Nosen walk on a 3 year deal at $2.75 AAV is almost unforgiveable. It amounts to not giving him a raise from $850k or so to $2.75M; let's just call it $1.9M. Really?
  14. Next question: who are the centers this season? Aho, Jarvis, Staal, Necas?
  15. Ghost played okay his first time here. Was PP QB last year and put up some respectable numbers. Wouldn't mind Okposo and/or Roslovic, either. Needless to say, this will be far from the best scoring blue line in the league.
  16. Canes announced QOs to: Coghlan, Necas, Drury and Jarvis.
  17. Canes need to get Skjei and figure it out with Necas now that Guentzel is gone. Lot of offense gone, and nothing has come in yet.
  18. Tampa looks to be 7 for $9M versus Carolina's 8 for 8 deal. Florida has the better offer with no state taxes, but they're old and not a realistic shot at the Cup any time soon.
  19. No, but with the Skinner issue (he's not giving up his no-movement clause and he's got 3 years left on a 8 yrs for $72M), attendance issues and a disappointing year, all signs point to a mini-rebuild of sorts. They have #14 and 2 2nd round picks in this draft. Hell, I'd throw in KK and retain 30% of his salary this season for Tuch and #14.
  20. Martin Necas to Buffalo for Alex Tuch and the #14 pick. I'll do that deal right now, no questions.
  21. Speaking of a top 10 pick, NJ is rumored to be dangling that #10 pick for Necas.
  22. If they release him, it's only to make room for Necas or another younger player. He's under contract for another 3 seasons @ $9M AAV. And he's 32 years old. Buffalo has about $24M in cap space.
  23. https://www.wusf.org/sports/2024-05-15/jaguars-and-jacksonville-detail-plans-to-spend-1-4-billion-on-a-stadium-of-the-future The 63,000-seat, open-air stadium will include a translucent covering that’s the equivalent of “wearing shades in the sun,” Lamping said. It's expected to lower outside temperatures by 15 degrees. The stadium plan also includes 140% more concourse space, 190 new points of sale, 16 new escaladers, 12 new elevators and 12 new restrooms. Capacity could be expanded to 71,500 to accommodate the annual Florida-Georgia college football rivalry, the Gator Bowl, a College Football Playoff game or a Final Four basketball tournament. Pools and a party deck would remain in the north end zone. The city and the Jaguars still hope to add substantial development to the surrounding area, which is expected to include a University of Florida satellite campus that would bring in 10,000 graduate students. Deegan called the surrounding area critical to the development of the downtown area.
  24. Okay. Technically, yes. Building a new venue on the old footprint 4 times as wide as the existing structure and adding a sunshade roof that will cover all seating areas. I could tear down your entire house except for one bathroom and, technically, it's a reno.
  25. Wow. Jacksonville just announced a new stadium deal for $1.4B. Charlotte and the Panthers are doing a $1.3B reno.
