This is one of the those once in a lifetime events unless you're 100 years or older. There's always going to be something no matter where you live, hurricanes, tornadoes, fires, snow, etc. -
I can see those missing shops and all being replaced with some kind of chain BS if it gets rebuilt at all. Did you see the reports about the investors and rich folk running to Maui and buying up as much land and the remaining houses as they could? That's going to happen here even more now than it was. The vultures will descend on the area because they know folk will be desperate.

Agree with everything but the Fitt was a spy thing. He was just terrible at his job. -
We bought one after losing power for a week at the time after two previous hurricanes. Since then, we've only lost power for over an hour two or three times and one of those was the other year when Duke did their rolling brownout at Christmas. Except for the planned brownout, every time we've lost power has been due to line issues away from my road.

Power companies and insurance already have a lock on that.
