Week 13 WIN against the Saints - Stats & Analysis

Last graph for the night:  Rushing yards, by player, by game. 

Stew has been the leading rusher by yards in 10 out of 12 games - both games in which Cam was the leading yardage rusher were early in the season.  In one of those games, Cam & Stew were basically tied for yards.

The game against Philly is the only game of the season where any rushers besides Stew & Cam managed to combine for at least 50 yards.

Nice stats for Cotchery - from a new article at the Observer:

Cotchery has seen 28 catchable balls come his way this season, and he’s caught 27 of them. Seventy percent of his catches have either gone for a first down or a touchdown, the second-highest rate on the team behind speedster Ted Ginn Jr.

Newton has thrown 11 catchable balls to Cotchery on third down this season, and nine of those have gone for a first down.

And Cotchery has done all this while playing on just 37 percent of Carolina’s offensive snaps this season.

THE PANTHERS:

 

• Have won 16 straight regular-season games, the best in NFC history.

• Have rushed for at least 100 yards in 23 straight games, tied with Seattle for the longest such streak in the NFL. The last team to hit the century mark in as many games was the ’77-’78 Houston Oilers.

• Have outscored opponents 107-22 off turnovers. They’ve turned their 29 takeaways into 12 touchdowns and eight field goals. The defense hasn’t allowed a touchdown after a turnover

• Are 25-for-35 (71.4 percent) in the red zone over their past eight games.

• Have allowed just 250 rushing yards over their past five games.

• Have scored at least 20 points in each of their 12 games. The franchise’s longest such streak before this season was nine games at the start of 2009.

• Are 16-3 in December since 2011, matching Seattle for the best record in the month during that timeframe.

• Have scored a league-best 122 points in the second quarter. They’ve also allowed the fewest points (44) in the second quarter.

• Have a league-best nine-game home win streak.

• QB Cam Newton has a passer rating of 115.0 in the red zone with 19 touchdowns and no interceptions. Newton has thrown 16 touchdowns and three interceptions over his past six games. He needs one more score to pass Peyton Manning (147) for second-most total touchdowns in a player’s first five seasons (Dan Marino, 171).

• RB Jonathan Stewart has a career-high 232 carries, bettering his previous career high of 221 rushes in 2009. He needs 86 yards for his second 1,000-yard season (2009). Stewart has at least 20 rushing attempts in eight straight games, the longest active streak in the league since 2011 when Seattle’s Marshawn Lynch also had 20 or more in eight straight.

• FB Mike Tolbert has three receiving touchdowns, tying his career high he previously set in 2009 with the Chargers.

• WR Ted Ginn, Jr. already has set a single-season career high with six receiving touchdowns. He needs one reception and 31 yards to match his totals (36 rec., 556 yds.) from his first go-round with the Panthers in 2013.

• TE Greg Olsen needs 83 receiving yards to hit 1,000 in a second straight season. He’s scored six touchdowns for the third straight year and needs one more to notch his most since he had eight with the Bears in 2009.

• TE Ed Dickson already has more receptions (14) and receiving yards (117) than he had in 2014 (10, 115).

• DT Kawann Short has seven sacks, tying Kris Jenkins’ (2002) team record for most by a DT in a season.

• LB Thomas Davis already has set single-season career highs in sacks (5), interceptions (3) and forced fumbles (3).

• S Kurt Coleman already has set a single-season career high with six interceptions. He’s had a pick in five of his past six games, including the past four.

• K Graham Gano is tied for with Patriots K Steven Gostowski for most points scored (115).

By the way, I think BBR is incorrect.  Up until last week, we had not allowed our opponents to score a TD on any Panthers' turnover.  But last week, New Orleans scored a TD following a Panthers fumble.  No team has scored a TD against us following an interception.

We still lead the league in turnover ratio at +14, and net turnover points at +82
