Ideas for health insurance for players

Recommended Posts

It's one of the big parts of the CBA. I've thought about this for a while and came up with this idea for players.

Take about 10% of their salary, pretax of course, and set it aside in a fund to cover players health insurance for after they are retired from the game. Put the money into an interest bearing account and use the interst to fund the insurance plan. When a player retires, the money that that player put into the fund is returned to him. It could be done over a period of time like a pension fund.

At 10% with 120 mil a team in player salary, it worked out to 384 million a year that would go into that fund. It could also potentially help solve the problem of players being broke 5 years after they retire.

I'm sure that there's a whole bunch of legal crap involved and it may not even be possible depending on how the fund is set up, but it's a thought.

    • Don't have to be miss cleo. His weakness are length, athleticism, creating his own shot, defense, finishing at the rim,  Strengths - shooting and IQ.   Likely won't work as non athletic shooters don't typically work.

    • I live in Indiana and took a trip that weekend to watch my two friend's teams play (Chiefs and Vikings) IN Minnesota when they were playing at a college field, I think TCF? Anyways, our plan was to watch the game (noon game) then do some shopping at the Mall of America, I wasn't planning on watching the Panthers play Seattle since I was out sight seeing and walking around after the noon game had ended. By the time we were walking back into the Mall the Panthers were down by 2 scores in the 4th or going into the 4th and we were all thirsty from walking around for 2.5 hours after the Vikings game so we decided to postpone shopping until after we ate. We found this nice little sports bar inside the mall that had the game on. Man, I'm so glad we skipped shopping because that was probably the most excited I've been in some time for a win. Beating Seattle in 2015 felt like the "monkey off the back" sort of feeling and I knew we had finally arrived as a team. The entire bar erupted when Cam hit Olsen for that walk off TD. Literally one of the greatest moments of my life. My friend wasn't so happy though lol, by the time the Panthers game ended ALL of the stores inside the mall had closed and he wasn't able to get any souvenirs. It was his first time watching a Vikings game live and making a trip like that so he was legit upset lol. I on the other hand couldn't have been happier.
