They lose more games like this than anyone. They're like the old DePaul teams with Marc Aguirre and Terry Cummings.

Damn, does anybody want to play VCU?

This bunch is scary because they truly believe they can beat anybody, and they should believe it.

Maybe NC State needs to give Shaka Smart a look..

Why would Shaka Smart want to go to NC State? His VCU team has way better talent.

You know what's fun to do? Read through the Kansas message board's game thread. Just to see the complete change in emotions. They start off all happy, waiting on the ass kicking they are getting ready to administer to VCU to threatening the ref's lives and eating their own.

Entertainment with a capital E.

"Why should a conference like the CAA get 3 teams in the tournament?"

Screw you, hippie. Either VCU or Butler are in the title game.

I wonder when conferences like the CAA are going to stop being called mid majors. Given their performance the last few years, they should probably be called majors.

Fwiw, the only team that came close to beating VCU was Florida State.

Proud UNCW (from the CAA) alum here.

Factoid about the CAA & the NCAA tournament:

Three times since the conference was born in '82 have they sent two or more teams to the NCAA tourn. The results:

1986 Richmond & Navy - Navy made it all the way to the elite 8
2006 George Mason & UNCW - Mason made it to the final 4
2011 VCU, ODU & G. Mason - VCU makes it to the final 4

having gone to a school that plays in a supposed mid major conference, I've followed mid major teams closer than most. Here is my take: there are a handful of mid major conferences that now nour the lines between major and mid major. Many schools in the upper echelon of mid major conferences pull in talent that can compete with anyone. The difference though is that their talent is generally not as college ready, but their talent ceilings are nearly as high. Once these guys get accustomed to the college game and have a few years under their belts, they can beat even the best. This is why the mid major teams you see making big runs are usually loaded with juniors and seniors. The one and done rule has helped level the playing field. There is too much turnover in power six conferences and even though raw talent is better, they do not play as well together as a team.

Mid majors have always been a factor.

VCU and Butler (2011)
Butler (2010)
George Mason (2005)
UMass (1996)
UNLV (1990, 1991)
Indiana State (1979)
Penn (1979)
DePaul (1979)
Western Kentucky (1971)

Your list may only include Final Four runs, but you are forgetting two local teams:

Davidson has made it to the Elite 8 twice. Once in the late 60's or early 70's and then the 2008 run that everyone remembers.

Charlotte made it to the final four in 1977 and got screwed on a last second shot (that shouldn't have counted, but no replay back then) out of the championship game against Carolina.

According to some on here, you should have no knowledge of any teams, games, and/or players prior to you being born.

If you include Elite Eight there are tons of mid majors. Dayton played Georgetown one year. Temple made at least three Elite Eights. Gonzaga made it twice, I think.
