The way it was explained to me, to run unaffiliated you have to get signatures totaling 4% of registered voters in your district. Just what was explained to me.

I think Coach Rivera should get tons of credit. Players like playing for him, and he gets the most out of most of the guys on his team.  He will fall on the sword and take blame even when it's not really his fault but he also holds players responsible when they don't perform which is a fine line to walk.
Some of his in-game decisions aren't always what I'd choose, but that comes with the territory. I am sure there are also a lot of decisions made that the majority of us wouldn't make that work out for the best.
About Shula...and I've said this before.. Madden makes everyone think they are qualified to be an NFL offensive coordinator.  He's not the best in the league, but I certainly don't think he's the worst. Take away a few drops and penalties, and we have put up decent numbers this year with our well-documented lack of experience at receiver.  I think Shula has grown into his position as well.

unaffiliated voters running for school board
Just wondering your thoughts on this. House Bill 112 passed recently, which says unaffiliated voters can no longer run for our local school board. You have to be registered democrat or republican.
Anyone else have a problem with this?
Can anyone name a reason this is a good law?  Is there any advantage (other than purely political)?

I can tell you having a good mentor for incoming teachers is invaluable. This is coming from my memories as a new teacher (long ago) and my work as a mentor.  The amount of stuff a new teacher has to learn and go through--there's just no way to prepare, even through student teaching.  And I agree sometimes change is good.  I honestly think we need to pay principals much more and take some of the responsibilities off them so they can concentrate on their teachers, and run off the bad ones. Trouble is, if you have a bad teacher, as long as they aren't doing anything illegal, it's not worth running them off right now. There's simply not a lot of options to take their place.
By the way, we are losing another good teacher at our school. He will have his 30 years in later this year, and he's leaving as soon as he hits the mark. Going to finish out the first semester but we'll have to hire someone after Christmas. He said financially he crunched the numbers and he can work his part time construction gig (that he helps his brother with in the summer) working 15 hours a week and make up the difference in salary.

I hope the weather didn't dampen a great wedding and memories that you'll remind each other of forever. Best wishes to you man. As someone who absolutely knows that he outkicked his coverage, here's wishing you did the same.

It really is crazy however it got to this point. Healthcare costs overall have gotten outrageous for years. If you've had any procedures done at all and look at the line by line cost, it's crazy.
I went to the ER for a kidney stone a couple months back. Suffered with it for most of the day before I went --absolutely the worst pain I've ever had, for several hours.  Went to the ER finally, was there for three hours. Never saw a doc. Saw the PA, two nurses, got a couple jets of morphine (ahhhh that's the good stuff), some nausea medicine, and went home.  No MRI, just some bloodwork.
Cost me over $1000 out of pocket for that.
Had two hand surgeries a couple years ago and they ended up costing me almost 20 grand over a period of two years, when you take meds and physical therapy into account.
And this is with state BCBS coverage, which is better than a lot of folks have.
So yeah, something is definitely out of whack.

An elite quarterback makes that throw 90% of the time. Cam missed putting it perfectly by a foot.
A good receiver makes that catch. Funchess will get there.
    I like that look.

If that throw had not been high we may have had another pick.

Man did he put on the jets to get to the goal line untouched.  Ginn, you are a fast man.

Yes we hear all the time that if we take a personal day (which we don't get paid for, have to ask off for at least 5 days in advance, and has to be approved by our principal), not to post pictures on Facebook etc. because the public thinks we are out getting paid for that day. I took two personal days a couple years ago to take my dad to the Masters (his retirement present) and I was told this. Crazy.
Just about every teacher I know that is the primary income earner for their family works another job. I did for years, but didn't this past summer because I was just too burned out. Plus I'm a varsity basketball coach and doing summer workouts took up much of my free time (don't get paid for those summer workouts either-- and if you saw my coaches supplement you'd laugh).
Another quick example before the game starts:  We teach bio/med classes at our high school. You have to be a registered nurse to teach the class.  We've had 4 teachers in 4 years. Each of them left because they said if they were going to work this hard, they'd go back to nursing and make more money. Hard to blame them.

When App traveled to Montana a couple years ago a few of my friends went to the game. Said it was one of the most awesome places they had ever seen a game.  Their fans are very classy, and passionate at the same time.
Of course my vote goes for Kidd Brewer in Boone.
