I have been on the Funchess bandwagon from the beginning.  I hope I am right about him  I know everyone else feels the same way.

Glad it was preseason.  Otherwise we might be optimistic about this offense this year.  Everyone knows that if we look good it is only the preseason but if we look bad it will be a real harbinger of the regular season.  I dont want to get too excited or praise the offense or Shula.  That way I can sit back and wait until we struggle and then tell everyone how he sucks and I was right all along.

I had season tickets for Clemson that year.  I would drive to Lavonia Georgia and pick up my father and then head the back way to Clemson. Made the return trip every Sunday we played at home.  It was a great season but the drive down 85 was crazy and the drive into Clemson even worse.  I remember using the service road for miles trying to find a way around the traffic jams.  I would look back and there would be 25 people behind me hoping I knew where I was going.  I was hoping I did too.....

I would expect about 225 yards passing and 125 rushing a game.  Puts us at 350 yards a game which would be good for around 15th or in the middle of the pack.  Couple that with 24 points a game and we should be okay this year. I figure our offense this year should be good for a field goal over last year's offense. That would have been good enough for 9th place in 2014.

if you think our plays are vanilla in the regular season and you have watched the offense then you either don't know what you are looking at or had your mind already made up,and saw what you wanted to see.  Are they boring the way we run so much? Yeah. Do we often try smash mouth instead of being cute and deceptive which blows up when your O line sucks?  Yeah
but the playcalling in the regular season isn't different from anyone else. If you were watching against the Patriots we ran quite a few pick plays and zone overloads to the outside. Receivers were wide open all night. That is not due to great route running if it is more than 1 guy for example because we all know all of our receivers are not great route it just might be something else. Since it can't be good playcalling it must be dumb luck

Has to be route running since everyone knows that Proehl is a genius and Shula is clueless. Let's ignore all the pick and rub plays we used to spring receivers or the  reverses and gadget plays. Classic huddle speak:
if it goes well it is due to the players great execution. If it goes poorly it is not due to players poor execution but poor coaching and play design.

I agree with you Ginn is actually pretty good for us.  I think people see what he has done on other teams and assumes that is his potential.  He had his best season as a WR for us in 2013 and is picking up where he left off.  His speed makes corners play off him which opens up things underneath and across the middle.  When people play tight he and Cam will burn them for 7.  I think many folks really underestimate him

Brown needs to step up plain and simple.  His roster spot is not guaranteed or the reporters wouldnt say he on the bubble.  They obviously got that from someone on the staff.  Brown didnt really do that much last year to guarantee a spot this season.  THe NFL stands for not for long and that is the attitude people need to take.  If he knows his job is in jeopardy and he can't handle the pressure and folds again, then he doesnt have the mental toughness to play for us, plain and simple.  Everyone at this level has the talent to make a squad but it takes more than to be good enough to contribute significantly.  This is his job to lose.  Lets see what he does with it.
I for one hope he comes out and does great tomorrow.  And I would think that anyone who is a Panther's fan without an agenda would agree as well.

I will wait until we know who the receivers are on the final roster. If we will pick up a veteran or Norwood really surprises it might cut into his production.  But based on the first 3 preseason games he does seem like at least our number 2 and a legitimate deep threat.  Then again I told eveyone he was going to have a good year and that would have been even with Benjamin playing.  He would have just been a 3 instead of a 2 or 1.  After all remember that he was a first rounder.  I cant help other teams don't know how to use him.

I hate to see Boykin cut but it is what it is. Hopefully Norwood plays well. On another note I was one of the first to say that Ginn will make an impact as a receiver not just in special teams. Right now he is the best receiver on the team

brown was in there to see what he could. That is the whole point of the preseason. He came in late to boost his confidence after stinking up the joint in the first half. The bigger question is why Boykin hasn't played more. Sure he is inconsistent in practice but then again so was Delhomme and countless others who are gamers not practice warriors. I think given how bad Brown has sucked after looking much better last year they are giving him every chance to show he has improved versus going through a sophomore slump.

I love how any good idea has to be due to Gettleman talking some sense into Rivera and any bad one Is Rivera's alone. Huddle fan speak.

I know you made this thread and are defending your idea that this guy would be worth a look. But let's be real here, there are a bunch of better options who haven't had multiple injuries which are potentially career ending. Plus unless you are related to him or are his agent, why the hard on for an injury prone guy who is all but washed up.?  sure sure look at he potential, lol. We won't be picking him up so just let the thread die.

exactly. And exactly what has he done at this point to engender hope he could come in and play for us this year. If we wanted him down the road we can wait to see whether he has anything left and pick him up down the road. Whoever picks him up this year won't get their monies worth and have to be desperate. I can't se him being better than Boykin or other guys already on the roster. He will be lucky to even play again with any semblance of his prior speed and acceleration. It is bad enough for a player like a linemen to rehab from that kind of injury. But for a receiver who has to have speed and acceleration to do his job and certainly to be an upgrade for us, it is unlikely he will come all the way back. Certainly not enough to sign him to a contract. At this point we need a guy who can challenge for a starting position, not a project.

First of all Davis is the exception not the rule. He is the only player who has éver had 3 ACL surgeries on the same knee and returned to play at a high level.  For that matter I have had the ACL surgery on my right knee so I very familiar with the procedure and rehab.  Secondly Achilles injuries as a different thing all together. Beason and Godfrey both had Achilles surgery and it took years to even play and regain any of their speed or acceleration. I don't know of any player who has ever had multiple ACL  surgeries and Achilles surgery and played at a high level. So no it doesn't matter what his potential was before the surgeries, after them the potential is low and he has bust written all over him. Particularly this year and next. If he were to come back it will take at least 2 years or longer to see what he can do. We can't wait that long.
