it's also like they're trying way too hard to make rick and gang cool again after an entire season of everyone complaining about them being negan's little bitches

This x1000. Maggie is getting annoying to me tbqh. She's still not showing a baby, and she's just seamlessly taken over Hilltop with no real backing to it on the show. But rah rah, let's go get'em team Hilltop, fug yeah!

yeah what should have been a great episode just felt slapped together and forced. i know negan and gang got grenades and could have just lobbed a couple and ended rick and his buddies as well.  they should have never been close enough to get a clean shot

who decided to shoot that scene in a fuging alley

I just looked into it a bit. It seems last night's episode was pretty much issue #116 or so in the comic.

In the comic, Dwight gets the "pooping your pants" line from Negan about the horde.

Around the same time, Holly gets captured after breaking down the gate to let the horde in. Gabriel kinda took that role on the show.

However, Holly's death has pretty much already been done with Sasha on the show, so I don't really know what they have planned for Gabriel. But, it doesn't look good.

I'm going to look into the spoilers now. Here's some stuff from the comics:

In the next few comics post-116, we basically get a lot of dialogue... Maggie punches Gregory in the face, so maybe the show will do that. A few issues later is when Negan's group return to Alexandria with Holly in tow, and they also launch the grenade assaults. It'll be interesting to see if they do that on the show. There's also an assault on the Kingdom, and Shiva dies. Richard dies then too, but I would bet the show does that big guy with the axe in for that death.

Maybe I'm dumb but why didn't they just go after Negan right then and there and kill him. Not saying it would stop the war but killing him would've been a major blow to the saviours.

Negan should of been dead a long time ago.  He pretty much just struts around with magic fairy dust on him.  Like there is a magical dumpers hovering over him.   He has pretty much begged a group of people who are great shots to take him out countless times.

Maybe it happened in the comics, I don't know....but Rosita shooting him at point blank range only to have a bat magically eat the bullet was just one of countless examples.   Just in this episiode, outside of missing him wide open with 50 shots, Rick couldn't even wound him popping through the hole in the barrier with like 100 rounds.

I mean I know it is a zombie show so it isn't "realistic" but they could limit some of the absurd stuff.

we will probably get the standard go to character routine with Father Gabriel (that they have done with Carol, Rick, etc).  Now Gabriel goes back to being a bitch character.  Then eventually he reverts back to being the new badass priest just when needed.

The timeline bouncing got a little Lost feeling.

First thing I thought of when they showed Rick's flashforward/dream whatever moment......was this comes off just like LOST and even features a Dr. Jack-esque shitty beard.

Meh I'm just a casual fan along for the ride but that one was so obvious it was just really dumb.

Yeah, from what I've read in interviews leading up to this season, as well as speculation in reviews after last night:

Several "big" deaths happen this season.  I'm guessing with Gabriel ending up in the RV with Negan and no one from the group has mentioned him in the aftermath, there is one victim.  The visions flashforwards to Rick kneeling beneath the stained glass, is supposedly alluding to the comics where he decides to let Negan live after the All Out War.  But, it appears they're going to veer away from the source material when it comes to The Whisperers and The New Beginning stuff, as Rick's vision of him with the cane has Alexandrians preparing for that festival and Rick is present.  Whereas in the comics,  if I understood it correctly, Rick has left Alexandria to look for Carl and Alpha came and murdered some of his people.  So, what does this mean?  Regardless, I'm guessing the same people The Whisperers killed will be offed in some form or another this season - Rosita, Ezekiel, Gabriel, among others.  I'm wondering if they will finally take Judith out as well, at the hands of Negan would be my guess if it happens...  which would give further context to the "let my mercy..." line in the flashforward.  Inalso think the Garbage People are The Whisperers.  Andrew Lincoln and Kirkman also both have said Rick does not survive until "the end," and alluded to the show moving on without thr main character at some point...  so, there's that to think about.

too much of this kind of poo

cut down on the speeches, counting, and other dumb gimmicks and replace it with action or meaningful dialogue.

second half of this episode was decent but the # of plot holes, minor and major, once again is astounding.

I feel like they're setting up Carl's death. Rick was crying, then the opening credits, then the next scene is Carl with that guy that quotes "my mercy prevails over my wrath".

Then we get to the end and go back to rick crying and he says those words.

Seems to me like something is going to happen between that guy and Carl
