FF1 will always be the champ, followed closely by Cecil and FF2. Absolutely loved 7, thought 9 was fun to play (until my ex at the time stole my Playstation), but couldn't get into 8 and X blew large vapid chunks.

The only problem I had with the Mako is that it took your characters out of the action. Yeah it was a PITA at first but once you learn it, the problems are pretty insignificant.
