Presently our "Special Teams" are not looking so "Special".
There was a time in the not to distance past that our "Special Team" play really stood out strong in the preseason. It was a factor that would compliment of defense and offense.
Punt and kickoff coverage has not been very good and the punt and kickoff returns have been horrible,to say the least.
As much as I would like to support Armanti Edwards, I really don't expect to see him on the field come opening day.He seems doomed to be a project for at least another year and the other return men don't seem capable of stepping up either.
We may have no choice but to go outside for a return man when other teams begin their cutdowns.
I am not as concerned about the punt and kickoff coverages because i feel it will stabilize once we have the luxury of having the same players on the coverage team.

The only thing special about them at this point is cute, little, short, yellow bus they ride on from the players' lot to the stadium...

I would like to see CB Brian Witherspoon try returning kickoffs and punts, seems that is one of the mains reasons why the Panthers originally signed him.
Like the author of the thread stated,we will have no recourse but to look elsewhere if the current kickoff and punt returners don't step up to the plate in a very short time.

Seems its been a slow steady spiral downward since Scott O'brien left.

Actually I did feel that our punt and kickoff coverage and blocking was much improved from the Balitmore game when we couldn't block or tackle anyone. Its still below average but it was better.
We just need our guys to stop muffing punts. Good special team are paramount to having a successful team so I hope we can get all the pieces together over the next 2 1/2 weeks.

Almost as "special" as Saltman. Oh wait, he's the terrorist. So they say.
