Matt Ryan and his sophmore season?

Recommended Posts

OK, I see your point if that's what you were saying re: VY/Ryan. I still think it was MORE overdone with VY based on actual performance.

Dude, I agree. I HATE that there's no rookie salary scale based on what draft position the guy was chosen. No one should get that type of money before they are proven...I think it is bad for the NFL.

Yes, not comparing them in any way on the field, just that I think the media jumped on his jock too quick, just like VY.

Terrible for the players, the fans, and the NFL. He is the forth highest paid player in the league......thats stupid. There is a better way.

Maybe take the 16th highest paid player at that position, and you can make no more than them......or something like that.

I think they need to figure out a formula kind of like the FT formula and use that. But I won't get too into that topic on this thread because I am hijacking it. :)

Start a rookie cap thread.....it's the offseason.

I am just not sold on Flacco. His typical line was 9 for 23 with 140 yds. The Ravens won because of their phenomenal defense. If Flacco had gone to a mediocre team without the Ravens Defense, he would not even be in the conversation.

by the end of the year flacco and ryan's per game stats were very comparable.

This is pretty much Ryan's peak. Everything that rookie qbs struggle with he didn't, so what does he have to improve on? Flacco on the other hand has far better physical tools, more room to improve, and did that all without the good offensive talent around him.

Honestly, I will hold off on them both. I like to see a second year before i get excited.

I'm with you Fuzz....I actually like to see three steady years total with improvement every year before I call a QB great.

Yup.

There are a few out there that the pundits slobber over right out of the gate that really get me going.

Cutler, Young, Ryan, Rodgers, the jury is still out on these guys to me.

The reason they usually do that is OMGZGHEHASABIGBIGARM!!!! As is the case with Cutler who is one of the biggest douchewaffles I have ever seen as a QB. He's just a complete jackass. He threw his defense under the bus when they lost to SD in the last game, he said something the other day on LiveWire that made me want to smack him...he's just utterly cocky for no reason. He will learn quickly that doesn't play with Mickey D.

Jay Cutler: 3rd year in the league, 25/18 TD/int, 62% of passes, 4500 yds, almost identical perstats as his second year.

Aaron Rodgers: 4th year in the league, 28/13 TD/int, 63# of passes, 4038 yds

yeah jury is really out on these new kids

"I am thinking of another rook that had a "break out" first year, and won the ROY award......Vince Young"

I think Ryan has a brighter future than Young, if only because QBs who offer a true running ability still haven't won a champiopnship. The QB who can stand back, read a defense, and if necessary, take a big hit while delivering the ball on target are the guys who win championships. Sure, that may change one day, but until that day comes, I'll take the Ryans of this life. I believe Ryan is the real deal. With the right personnel and scheme, he very well may lead the Falcons to the Promised Land. Or maybe he won't. Marino never did, among others.

Ryan will only get better. Opposing coaches and players have raved about him througout this season before and after they played him. Even our own, Gamble come to mind, have given him much credit as a player.

I believe it was Gamble who said " I can't believe he's a rookie".

Overall win record?

I understand that they have good stats, I am still waiting one more year.

And for the record, Cutler is one of my most hated players in the league.
