Huh??

http://sportsillustr....html?eref=sihp

He has Peppers as DPOY edging out Clay Matthews which I think is ludicrous. Did individual defensive performers underperform that badly this year?

IMO its Matthews easily. He had more big plays for a higher rated defense. I find it hilarious that on a defense that was probably better than this Bears team, Peppers got zero recognition for DPOY as a Panther a few years ago.

Meh... He's basically DPOTD (Defensive Player of the Decade), but that is to people who know football outside of Panthers fandom...

I know it goes way deeper than stats, and Pep had a really good year, but I just don't see it. I have heard others(Wilbon) say they think he could be DPOY but IMO it has to be Matthews.

If its not about stats I'm pretty sure I could make the case that Jimmy Clausen is defensive player of the year. I mean look at opposing defense numbers when he plays.

For the record, Peter King also thought Fox would win coach of the year and the Panthers would be in the playoffs.

Matthews does have more sacks.

Peppers has more INTs, FFs, and PD. Peppers has been an absolute beast this year....far better than his stats indicate.

Better than he was here? IDTS. In 2008 he had 14.5 sacks and 5FF in a year where our team was the 2nd seed in the NFC, yet got no recognition for DPOY. Dumb.

Yes, just as predicted. Next year is when Peppers starts his disappearing act.

Peppers has been great all year, and you could argue he's one of the biggest reasons they made the playoffs, but he is not the DPOY. I think James Harrison deserves it more.

James Harrison - 100 tackles, 10.5 sacks, 6 forced fumbles, 2 interceptions. Matthews had a great year too, but I don't think it compares to Harrisons(even though Matthews had more sacks). I hate Harrison but you can't deny the stats he put up.

My opinion would be:
1) Harrison
2) Matthews
3) Peppers
