I'm not sure that I can say he is the best. And I say that because, if he was so fantastic and so elite then he should have locked the starting role opposite Peppers last year. Yet for some reason Peppers remained the top dog of DE's on our team. Maybe that has something to do with the coach and playing time or maybe he just made a huge leap last year.

Either way he is a work horse and he is worth the money. CJ has loads of talent and loads of heart and work ethic. His qualities balance themselves out unlike that one DE who used to be here.

When Peppers was here Brayton was the starter. It was only the second year for CJ, hard for youngsters to win starting jobs. A lot of coaches prefer Vets. It is just the way things play out.

Tyson Clabo the FA Guard of the falcons said that Johnson was one of the strongest DE's he's ever been up against.

Pay the man.

We do not have a choice. Here is the list of priorities
1. Re-sign CJ
2. SIgn Cofield or Mebane
3. Re-sign TDavis (we have nothing behind him with the exception of a 5th round rookie)
4. Sign a CB
5. Sign a veteran QB
6. Re-sign Anderson
7. Re-sign DW.

I watched OTAs and loved to watch DL coach Baker. He was a beast. Anyhow, CJ stayed in his doghouse. CJ was frustrated a lot and got down on himself. Same thing happened to Corvey Irvin. Guess Baker didn't like UGA.

I would personally bump #7 up at least 3 or 4 places in that list...

Reality:
1. Re-sign CJ and DW
2. Sign Cofield
3. Re-sign TD
4. Sign a CB no one is happy with that turns out to be good
5. Keep Moore as back-up (not my preference)
6. Re-sign Anderson
7. Redo Beason and Kalil and no more $

An overrated CJ is better than anything else we got on the line, by far.

Is Charles Johnson overrated?

Depends on where he signs.

If he signs with the Panthers, no.

If he signs anywhere else, absolutely.

How is resigning DW ahead of addressing the DT position if we have a shot at Cofield? Cofield would have a much bigger impact overall for Carolina.

It'll be interesting to see how these guys respond to a new DL coach, as good as Baker was for some players he didn't seem to reach the last few groups of guys to come in quite the same way.

Best DE in free agency, that's why he is being hyped. He hasnt done enough yet to be considered one of the best in the game, not sure where you would have heard that.

This^

He had ONE good year and it wasn't even a pro-bowl year

I am not a football expert or analyzer, but all this talk about Charles Johnson being one of the best DE's in the game puzzles me. I watched every Panthers game religiously and I just didn't see it. Is there anyone out there who feels the same way I do?

I think someone is going to overpay him soon. I hope it is not us.

You're right to an extent.....a lot of his sacks came during garbage time. the games were already over. I think he had 3 sacks against Pitt, and that was one of the ugliest games I have ever seen.

The redskins will offer him 70 million and he will sign there to only have 3 sacks.
