Let Jimmy start in the Preseason. That's fine. But this is Cam's team.

Clausen will start preseason game 1.....then he will be an afterthought.

Yea, I want Clausen to start, but for different reasons.

In a condensed off season without ota's, increased roster sizes, and new coaches/philosiphys, the coaches are going to need the first few weeks to evaluate talent. There will be little time for really coaching the new system and spending one on one time with our players.

I don't think the team as a whole will be ready week 1. If that's the case why put Cam in a situation for him to fail. If he is going to be our franchise QB for the next 10 + years there is no need to rush him in. The kid still has a lot to learn.

I'll rather let Jimmy try to be the QB while the team gets their act together. Then if Clausen can just be okay you let Cam in when he is ready. Start with some series, then give him more game time until he is ready.

This way he comes in, plays well, and builds great confidence.

Just my opinion, though I know it's not a popular one around here.

newton is going to be part of the whole team getting it's act together. it's his team and they need to be getting used to him behind center just as much as he needs to be getting used to them.

there are going to be obvious growing pains as everyone gets used to each other in real game situations. better that they get it over with all at once rather than having to do it twice....once with clausen and then once with newton a few weeks later.

the sooner we can get newton playing with his team, the sooner we can be getting wins.

i don't really care what we do with clausen at this point. i hope he's improved over last year. i hope last year's performance opened his eyes and newton's drafting put a fire under his butt. i hope he provides solid depth that can come in and do no harm if newton gets hurt at some point. i hope he impresses people in TC and preseason games, but the most important thing is that newton comes in and takes over.

unless someone is significantly better than newton, newton needs to be the guy starting.

Yea.... neither one of us are wrong, we just each think different approaches are best. Hell even NFL coaches can not agree which method is best.

You think the team needs to grow with him anyway, so start him week 1 as he gives us the best chance to win. It will e better to let him learn and ecperience the same time as the team while they are also learning the new system.

I'm not so much about winning week 1 or 2, more so the long term development of Cam. I think it would be better to wait a few weeks to bring him into a better situation. I don't see the need to rush.

If the game is too fast for Clausen now, we need to cut our losses. That being said, I have a feeling that Jimmy can make a contribution while Cam gets the feel of the speed of the NFL. Give the kid a real chance instead of the one given, half-halfheartedly I might add, by Fox and the old OC.

I can't believe how easily and eager people are to dismiss a qb that was in his rookie season on a shitty team.

he made us a pooty team.

Cam will essentially have the same talent on offense.....with a TE upgrade.

regardless of not having DWill he had a better backfield than most QBs in the NFL.

Horrible QB play makes OLs look worse than they are. Clausen had that problem in college. We have seen countless examples of that in the NFL.

We run 2 WR sets under Fox....and he ignored his Pro Bowl beast WR. So it is hard to use that having primarly 1 promising rookie WR on the field as a defense for him sucking.

Fox's system is designed for bad QBs to find success.....Clausen was MUCH wors than bad. He was histrocally awful. Not sure why Carolina fans can't grasp how horrific he was.....and there is no excuses when you are that bad w/ that kind of talent around you.

Clausens going to be outstanding this year at holding the clipboard

Now now...they'll give him an earbud too.

It is funny though, he'll remind me of Jake Delhomme when he was holding the clipboard for Moore.

lol, seriously......why entertain yourselfs w/ these crazy thoughts about Clausen. That is like thinking if Jeff King becomes Antonio Gates then we really made a big mistake letting him go.......

Clausen won't have a chance to even try to up his stock unless something horrific occurs here.

You don't start him week one, unless you have evidence he'll be worth starting. If he does better then Newton in training camp and preseason then go for it. But you don't start someone to simply get a chance at a trade, if he isn't the best option.

i just find it funny that these guys are like "if he gets good we can trade him" like what? you guys are retarded. If Jimmy becomes good cam will be the first one shipped out lmao.

These dudes think good QB's are easy to find and we can replace one with a unproven one just like that.
