No doubt he's one of the greatest players to ever grace the field and all in all a good guy and teammate, BUT you can't apply the rule or principle to some but not others, like here at the Huddle.

Yeah it's okay if you mutilate & torture animals as long as you apologize for it, after being caught. But damnit if you post a picture of a dog mutilated by the person I'm defending that's just going way too far.

I can promise you that if you live long enough you will make one mistake that could possibly define you if you were famous. What Vick did was stupid beyond stupid and inhumane, but that does not disqualify him from ever again being a positive influence in the life of another individual in similar circumstances. People that you idolize have likely made mistakes that some people would view as unforgivable too, but you forgave them for their poor judgement enough to continue to respect their words.

If everybody that ever did something stupid, insensitive, disrespectful, inhumane, or all together terrible were no longer allowed to participate in society then we'd have nobody left to criticize from behind our keyboards.

I love animals as much if not more than most people here. I am careful to not use products that have been tested on animals. I try to live without causing suffering to other people or animals.... but I have made my share of mistakes that have helped me come to those conclusions.

What you're doing by posting those pictures of the dogs that were mutilated is not devaluing what Mike Vick has to say or admonishing his actions, you're using gore porn to try to shock people with what they already know that Vick has done. For example, say you've gotten a DUI in the past. Every post you make I follow you and post an accident scene photo of an alcohol related fatality regardless of what you say. Even when you say drinking and driving is bad because you've been there first hand, I post the same tired pictures that disgust people as if that devalues what you have to say. It wouldn't devalue your opinion. You would be more qualified to speak on it than anybody else because YOU HAVE been there in this theoretical example.

And I realize what I am typing is "long", by the plebeian standards of internet land where any post in excess of twenty words is in danger of being skimmed for high points.... but fortunately there are still a few literate people out there that realize that this post only took me about three minutes to type and would take you less than thirty seconds to read if you had the attention span.

I don't idolize anyone. No human being should be put on a pedestal.

Idolize may have been too strong... perhaps respect or attempt to emulate.

I like Vick the football player. He is a great qb & the most exciting player in the league at the moment. However, I find it troubling that Cam says he idolizes Vick.

Vick isn't a "great" QB, since we're splitting hairs.

Last year Vick was the best QB in the NFL.

Really? I don't remember the pic of him hoisting the Lombardi on the air, or the NFCCG trophy...

I must be missing something.

Yeah, the part where football is a team sport. It's a team sport therefore individual success cannot be based solely on team accolades.

Trent Dilfer has the same amount of Super Bowl rings as Peyton Manning. Also, Dan Marino never won a Super Bowl but he's one of the greatest QB's of all-time.

Ok, so Vick probably led all QB's in rushing yards, that's pretty impressive.

He didn't lead any significant statistical category, they didn't finish with the number one seed, didn't do squat in the playoffs but Vick is an unstoppable QB?

Nah, doesn't work that way.

Brady was the best QB last year, Rodgers was a close second. Vick was top four in rating with fewer attempts than most starters.

You're going to have to qualify that comment.

Point?

I could put together some clips of Rodgers that further demonstrates how much better he is than Vick. Has a shiney new ring too.
