Question for you guys who have read the books. I am not really looking for spoilers but does anyone ever get revenge in this story? I mean the Starks seem to be fan favorites and they just can't catch a break. I really like the unpredictable story telling but I am starting to get frustrated because I feel like a lot of big show downs that I have been looking forward to will never happen.

that's the beauty of the series.   you aren't spoon fed sugar coated solutions.  it keeps you on your toes.

martin makes any other author on the planet look transparent and predictable pretty much.

While I agree with you on that, I just really look forward to someone, anyone making it to the destination that they were trying to get to and actually fight. The sides are always so far apart and can never make it to each other. Other than the fight at kings landing at the end of season 2 no one can seem to reach their destination. And to be honest I really didn't care about that fight. It wasn't built up as a big show down in my opinion. I am still a fan and really enjoy it, I just wish for a little more action.

Martin from the beginning lets you know he's playing for keeps. When Ned dies it lets you know this is really world stuff. If you are surrounded by 100 guys who want to kill you, you won't magically live. I've seen few revenge/getting what they deserve situations. But there's alot of story to still unfold

There are lots of redemption moments throughout the series, so hang in there.

Also, they aren't the "yay good guy A killed bad guy Z" that you're probably expecting. They are more like "good guy A just totally made a great decision that will help him while bad guy Z just got caught up in some poo that is going to hurt him down the road, but party X seems to totally be becoming more relevant to both A and Z."

It's a huge, mean world. You have to remember the line "you win or you die"...

Not sure how it will all play out in the end or if anyone gets their vengeance, but there will be a balancing of power and the Lannisters are not immune to having serious consequences for their actions as we will find out likely next season

BTW I think John Snow is dead as a doornail. I think his death throws the nights watch into disarray and Snows death is what allows the white walkers to penetrate the wall and unleash a wintery hell on Westeros.

I also think the Hound is alive and well and he will be an important character by the end of the books.

Yeah it's made pretty clear that Sandor is the new grave digger at the place he's supposedly buried.

Why? The mystery of his mother can be addressed without John Snow being alive. I think he is dead. If he comes back it will be as a white walker.

Some other thoughts. Maester Aemon is right about who Azor Ahai is and the smoke and salt that is referenced in AA's rebirth is not a metaphor but a location

You don't come back as white walkers... you come back as wights...  ;)

as for the AA comment... are you referencing The Hound?
