Everything was going okay this year in the field until.........the hail. I've weathered the cold and heat snaps in the mountains. I've dealt with the heavy rains and washes, but then a couple of weeks ago we had hail and that did it for the Brocoli, Cauliflower, Spinach, and some tomatoes. The beans didn't get much damage. The winter squash hasn't come up yet. All in all, it's a disaster. Sometimes I wish I had crop insurance. I don't have a desire to get in bed with the government. Maybe some huddlers, but not the government.

There are times I wished I was farming in the mountains. Tough way to make a living but worth it.
Has anyone seen the guy on Mountain Men TV show? He is one of 3 they chronicle (lives up near the Tn and Va border in NC).
Pretty good show so far.
