2-14 to 7-9(with alot of close losses and no off season) this year we do not know the final out come. We did however just go into the NFL teams house and outplay them....yes we lost but we were prepared and outplayed and outcoached them. so are yall serious?

Wade Phillips.....hell and no. I'd rather bring back Dom Capers if that was the choice.

Both are proven outstanding DCs

Rivera keeps his job unless he closes the year in Raheem Morris fashion and the team quits on him which I doubt will happen. We then suffer through another bad 2013 season until he is mercifully let go.

While I'm disappointed in Rivera's decision to punt yesterday, I'm not remotely to the point of calling for his head. He's learning on the fly just as much as the players are; this is his first go-round as a head coach, and it's retarded to ditch a guy who's gathering experience in favor of someone who will just as likely have to start from square one as well (because let's be frank, Carolina isn't a posh job where coaches like Gruden are going to end up.)

Man that Jim Harbaugh is having a real tough time learning to coach too.

Harbaugh has been a head coach at the college level for years. Rivera has never been a head coach, but a coordinator or specialist.

Rivera is best suited as a DC in a 3-4 scheme imo

Way too early, but just for the record Mike Zimmer is the only name in this thread I could see taking seriously.

Biggest issue with Rivera right now is his not dancing with the one that brought him. He got the job for being aggressive. Now he seems like he's lost his nerve.

Only way Rivera gets fired is if we finish worse than last year and look really bad doing so. J.R. wants Cam to want to stay and he's going to worry if we continue to struggle on defense and special teams without any improvement. If we finish 6-10/7=9 Rivera stays, but heads into '13 on the hot seat.

That said, IF we're looking for a new coach next offseason I've always liked Bengals D.C. Mike Zimmer as a HC candidate. Not crazy about the idea of a retread like Gruden/Cowher, but I could get behind it if it came to that.

Vic Fangio (49ers D.C.) is going to be a hot name soon as is Jay Gruden. Cardinals D.C. Ray Horton as well. There's also a good chance Rex Ryan gets fired from the Jets; he might be good with an actual legit QB like Cam.

Packers O.C. Tom Clements could be a good get; he's also been a top-flight QB coach for years now. Also, dare I say Packers LB coach... Kevin Greene?
