FirstRoundPick 143 Report post Posted October 14, 2012 Uh, no... I wish the rest of the team would follow his lead and set a physical tone like he does. IMO, you still don't see enough competitive nastiness in this team. Believe me, getting slammed on your back and pinned by Smitty in the 1st quarter is a humbling experience... he's setting the "rules and regulations" early. How did that work out for him? raleigh-panther 1,792 Report post Posted October 14, 2012 Over the past 10-12 years the Panthers have had one verifiable star and that is Smith. Love him or loathe him his passing records speak for itself and he has caught more than a few critical balls to win playoff games and regular games while being double/triple teams with QBs, including this current one, whose accuracy puts in places to get his back broken in half. He wants to win and his method of going may be questionable sometimes but lets face it, it's a bruising physcial game, he is more like 5'7" than 5'10" tall and he does the absolute best he can with each and every snap. He is double and triple teamed on almost every single play because in those 10-12 years the Panthers have FAILED to pair a complimentary receiver with him. He gets the crap beat out of him. He plays hurt. People should use their heads and think about the hits he takes playing this game. I watched him on a MNF game in Charlotte against Green Bay literally crawl, pulling himself by his hands from the right hash mark to the sideline with a broken lower leg because he didn't want to be taken off the field by a stretcher. Most likely, he's probably the only weapon the Panthers have that other teams don't laugh at. Two things to think about 1) I remember reading on ESPN the Magazine by an anon. NFL player how 50% of the league hates football and plays it for the money. Smith is not one of those. He wears his heart and physical courage on his sleeve. 2) he is human, not Superman and he doesn't pretend to be. Give me Steve Smith any day of the week. Give him an accurate QB over his career and he would be in the hall of fame.

If everyone was like Smitty we would go 1-15. Penalties would kill us.... Also, teams would love for all offensive players to get taken out of the actual games for chunks bc they were so concerned with trying to show someone up

Yes....but not bc of who his QB was....it is under HIS control. Last week vs Seattle was a perfect example, the 2008 NYG game another, the entire 2010 season (there are tons of examples).... Smith has been mostly great....his immaturity has cost him and this team at times. The Panthers front office has made exceptions for him and so do fans. Smith isn't as great as he could be or could be for this organization.....as good as he has been (and he has been the best on field performer in franchise history ), he could of been better. Only one that should of been humbled was Smith....Seattle got Smith to take himself out of plays and hurt Carolina. Mindboggling stupid play is pimped as a good thing

CRA 13,938 Report post Posted October 14, 2012 Seriously...will you bitches stop bitching about Steve Smith? "Hee iz tha werst Karohlinah Panthur EVAR! Just shut your fuging mouths. Pretty sure no one has implied such thing. Here is a standard Steve Smith conversation Huddler 1 - Man, Steve played bad today. Dumb penalties, head wasn't in the game, and hurt us a couple of times. I thought he was past that. He sure talks like it. Huddler 2 - How dare you claim Smitty is worse than Colbert!! Smitty helps out in the community. He is going to the HOF. Clearly you should quit being a fan. Oh, yeah, what is Cam's deal? Why is that over emotional idiot throwing at the great Steve Smith when he is clearly setting the tone and doing something so much more important than running his route. I swear, Smitty would have had 200 yards against those intimated CBs if we had a real QB.

Dont Check My Chicken 29 Report post Posted October 14, 2012 I'm definitely tired of Smith's mental mishaps. False starts and dropping easy passes. That kills me. His fiery persona doesn't bother me, until he gets a flag.. EXACTLY... as long as his fiery acts don't harm the team, I love it. It's ALL about the results! raleigh-panther 1,792 Report post Posted October 14, 2012 Of all the problems on this team, people focus on Smith. Amazing. If you think the Panthers have problems know because he has an occasional non-perfect moment, wait until he does retire and Hurney STILL hasn't found his replace 12 years later.
