If I knew they were really sick I wouldn't let them play outside or have friends over. I would let them watch tv or play games as long as they were taking it easy and their meds. Very limited phone calls, just enough to tell their friends why they weren't at school.

I mean I see Inmicus' point, and if I thought my kids were laying out of school just because, then yeah, I'd make it so they didn't want to do that... but the weird thing about my kids is that they actually like going to school... a concept that was completely foreign to me when I was their age, so I don't generally have to worry about them skipping out...

Plus we can generally pretty easily tell if ours are actually feeling bad or not...

Our kid is the same way. She loves school and is kinda upset because she cant go. You can tell if she is sick or not. She doesn't ever complain about being sick so sometimes when she finally does say she feels bad, it's because she's really sick. She told me this morning that she needed to stay home before I took her temp.

I hated missing school and would sometimes fight with my mom about wanting to go in.

I'd just lie in bed and watch movies and get up when I could.

When she was young i would always tuck he in bed and take care of her. Bring her soup and meds, clean up the puke. I would even take off work so i could stay home and look after her. She's grown now and has her on place but this summer she got sick and called me up. Daddy i need someone to bring me some soup & ginger ale, and tuck me in and give me cough medicine with a spoon lol.

When I stayed home from school sick, I usually slept until about 4. I'd usually take in some Price is Right from 11-12 and then pass out until my mom got home from work and fed me.

i stayed inside but did whatever i wanted. same with my brother and sister.

when my wife and i were houseparents at the children's home, the kids signed a "contract" when they came to live with us about general house rules and their agreeing to abide by them. one of the rules was when they stayed home...they had to stay at home while school was going on and they could only eat chicken noodle soup. just kind of an incentive for them to not just lay out because they felt like it. they still had to do their chores, though.

my daughter just started kindergarten this year and we are trying to figure out what to do with her when she's sick. i think what we've decided is that she can lay on the couch and watch TV as long as she stays still (tough for a 5 year old) or stay in bed. my wife will work with her on her reading and numbers at some point during the day. she's only missed two days i think so far.

i think having them do some of their school work is appropriate, esp. if they are feeling good enough to do anything other than lay down in bed.

when she's really sick, she has no problem getting some extra sleep or maybe watching tv for a little while in bed while we try to feed her as much as she'll take and fluids.

when she's not really sick but just needing a her day...which isn't often, but hey, we all do it....she can play on the computer or video games or whatever, but it's inside and everything else that was supposed to happen that day gets cancelled.

When I am actually sick I don't want to do anything other than sleep- maybe passively watch tv
