...would you have favored starting Newton from day one or would you have preferred he sit his rookie season, get adjusted to the pro game and start in year two?

What is it we "know" exactly, just asking.

Yes I would have started him, there is more than one way to learn.

I was originally not in favor of drafting him because we did not have a veteran to start the first year but the crop of qbs that came out the same year and since then have made me rethink the idea that it takes several years to develop a rookie qb. The poise of this generation of qbs is pretty amazing.May have much to do with the college offenses and pro becoming more similar.....I don't know,

Still would start him from day one. Its not his fault that they've changed his offense. They played an O that helped a young QB. there were more screens to RB/TE and it helped having to TE for release valves.

it might be because he was so successful last season they felt he was ready to take the next step.

I understand what you're saying. But, they should've added wrinkles to that scheme instead of running a completely different style.

In a perfect world rookie QBs dont start. When you take one #1 overall you pretty much have to though..

Day 1 start without the Year 2 Offensive change

You've tapped into part of what I'm pondering here.

Suppose Newton had sat and learned all the nuances of a pro offense for the first season. Would Chudzinski still have felt the need - for whatever reason- to switch to a college style offense in year two?

I know people will go with the "he set a bunch of rookie records" argument in this. Someone will have to tell me exactly what good those records are doing us right now.

Add in that the benefit of whatever good experience he got last year is being erased by the disaster of this year.
