Why are people acting like total career yards means automatic induction?
. Calvin, Fitzgerald, Gronk, Graham, A. Johnson, Colston, Roddy, etc would all probably surpass him. And at the end of the day, even if it did stay the same, Smith isn't getting 20 more touchdowns in his career.

It truly is an UNFORTUNATE reality but it is a reality we need to start living in.

Seriously? Gronkowski, Jimmy Graham and Colston? COMBINED they don't surpass Smiity's receiving yards in his career. Get back to me on these guys in 5-8 years, they dont belong in this conversation, probably never will. This isn't Madden..
Roddy White has 8k receving yards at age 31. Calvin Johnson, if he plays at his current level another 5-7 years he'll have a good shot at the Hall. However, he still hasn't hit the win column in the Playoffs 6 years into his career.

Give Steve Smith the respect he deserves and don't prop these imposters up as comparisons to 89's achievements.

What hurts Smitty is he is tied with a bunch of guys for 64th place in rec TDs.

By the time he is eligible for HOF consideration....his yardage total wont be impressive. Smith technically is playing his career in this passing era and all the guys whose career started in it in full swing will leapfrog him years from now.

HOF talent. Not a HOF resume

I was talking about TDs. Thanks for proving you are just spouting off at this point.

Oh and by the way, Gronk already has 52 career touchdowns. He'll probably surpass Smitty in like a year and a half. Graham isn't as close but I'm confident he'll surpass Smith too and Colston certainly will barring injury.

And really? Calling Calvin an imposter? Are you really trying to argue Smith > Calvin? Smith has at no point ever been as good as Calvin is or was. Calvin already also has 54 receiving touchdowns and damn near guaranteed to surpass Smith in yards again barring injury.

How am I not giving Smith respect by living in REALITY? Smith isn't making the Hall of Fame barring a spectacular end to his career.

Had you actually READ anyway, I was not propping those guys over Smith. I was using those guys as an EXAMPLE as to why Smith is not going to remain in the top 20 in TDs even if he does make it because too many guys still active are already right there.

Thank you. This is all I'm saying. Bulk yardage does not matter as much anyway, at least not like TDs does. And Smith is so far behind in being even in the top 20 in TDs. And there are a bunch of guys who will have a better resume than him.

If you cant see how fugging ridiculous it is to project a 3rd year player like Rob Gronkowski as having a better chance at Canton than Steve Smith will I cant help you.
And where the fug do you get the idea Gronkowski has 52 receiving TDs in his career. He has 37.

Please check your facts so you have a clue what you're talking about.
With injuries and everything else that happens in the NFL being sure what these guys will do 7-8 years from now is ludicrous.
As far as Johnson, I acknowledged what a good shot he has at Canton should his carreer continue as it has.

he most likely misread the stat line on NFL.com, because right before TDs it has his career long, which is 52...so he had to just misread it

OMG I NEVER SAID GRONK HAD A BETTER CHANCE RIGHT NOW AT THE HALL OF FAME

MY POINT WAS THAT, SMITH TO MAKE TOP 20 IN TDS NEEDS 20 TDS IN CAREER. HOWEVER EVEN IF HE GETS THAT, GUYS, INCLUDING GRONK, WILL LIKELY SURPASS HIM EVENTUALLY CONSIDERING GRONK AT LIKE 23 YARDS OLD ALREADY HAS 37 TOUCHDOWNS. I NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT HALL OF FAME PROBABILITY. JUST TOUCHDOWN AMOUNT. GRONK WILL LIKELY FINISH WITH MORE CAREEER TDS THAN SMITH

Man, I don't know if you are doing this on purpose but damn.

And yes, I did misread it. But point still stands. Gronk will almost undoubtedly surpass Smith's touchdown amount. But regardless of that, if you can't see what I'm saying then I don't know what else to say. My point is Smith is not going to finish very high in TD amount. That is going to hurt him a lot in Hall of Fame bids.

Moving on.
Just ignoring all the what ifs and maybes.

Looking at recent WR Hall of Fame inductees.

Smitty is currently 4 Receiving TDs behind Micheal Irvin, 7 behind Art Monk.
Smitty is currently 600 Receiving yards behind Micheal Irvin, 1400 Receiving yards behind Art Monk.

I think Steve Smith has a legit shot at Canton with another prodcutive 2 or 3 years on his resume.
Have a nice day.

Do you think they are going to add Steve Smith, Randy Moss, Owens, Harrison, Carter, A.Johnson? Again, very few WRs get inducted even with tons of stats.

Irvin didn't play in the passing era....that is what hurts Smith going forward.

Irvin numbers minus rings.....in the passing era... is not a HOF resume

What do Monk and Irvin have? Rings

Irvin being in is a joke. Just like the HOF. Smith isn't getting in.

The Hall always inducts players based on their time period and peers. Bob Hayes just got in 3 years ago with 7k receiving yards. Induction can take decades.
Irvin played untill 1999, Smitty started year 2000.
Time will tell.
