How exactly do people get fat?

I've started counting my calories for the first time in my life, to try to gain weight.

In my efforts to try a weightlifting "bulking" phase and put on a pound per week, livestrong recommended that I eat over 3400 calories per day above any calories that I burn exercising.

I find this almost impossible. My normal eating habits only take me to about 1700 per day.

Help me, fatties... you're my only hope.

Lets see. Eat lots of fatty foods on the couch.

Drink lots of soda and beer.

Leave couch only to use bathroom

Watch your role model Honey Boo Boo

This should help.

Jase you're a really thin guy with, I would assume, a pretty high metabolism. A lot of people don't have that so it's much easier for them to put weight on, esp when eating poorly and not getting exercise. My metabolism has slowed over the years and continues to do so. I used to be able to eat anything I wanted... not anymore.

Somebody else started a thread this weekend about putting on weight...

You'll have to find some higher calorie foods that you like, eat protein, lift as heavy of weights that you can and go from there.

I used to think I have a high metabolism, but like I said, when I eat like normal, I only eat about 1700 calories.

What do you eat?

I've monitored mine and I tend to eat around 2200 a day. When I'm lifting, which is pretty much all the time now, I am constantly starving.

I had a grilled chicken sandwich for lunch at 12:30 and I'm already starting to get hungry.
