How exactly do people get fat?

In my efforts to try a weightlifting "bulking" phase and put on a pound per week, livestrong recommended that I eat over 3400 calories per day above any calories that I burn exercising.
I find this almost impossible. My normal eating habits only take me to about 1700 per day.
Help me, fatties... you're my only hope.

Drink lots of soda and beer.
Leave couch only to use bathroom
Watch your role model Honey Boo Boo
This should help.

When my parents got divorced, my dad lost a bunch of weight.....he used the weight gainer stuff from GNC...then proceeded to add peanut butter and/or ice cream on top of it
I did not get his metabolism
ps....I hate you people that have metabolisms like that...

Somebody else started a thread this weekend about putting on weight...
You'll have to find some higher calorie foods that you like, eat protein, lift as heavy of weights that you can and go from there.

I used to think I have a high metabolism, but like I said, when I eat like normal, I only eat about 1700 calories.
What do you eat?
I've monitored mine and I tend to eat around 2200 a day. When I'm lifting, which is pretty much all the time now, I am constantly starving.
I had a grilled chicken sandwich for lunch at 12:30 and I'm already starting to get hungry.

healthy protein is hard and that's probably why this is so hard for me.
3400 calories = a gallon of chickpeas, lol
not really all that hard. Chicken, fish, beans. Lean pork and even lean beef are all ok. I used to mix an EAS protein shake in the mornings (24g) but not lately. I'm on a cardio (running) kick right now so I just eat some greek yogurt instead (14g).
With the running I can pretty much eat whatever I want whenever I want. Even after the holidays I can see my abs (haha MPF!). Are you doing alot of cardio?
