He is no longer rightfully called a "franchise QB" but Carson Palmer was considered one at the time he forced his way out of Cincy.

When is the last time a potentially elite QB had to endure years of losing? As long as we're talking in hypotheticals, let's go there too.

No one can say what will happen, but I don't see Cam staying a highly motivated, hard working QB for this organization if we don't have some success and if there is a perception that our FO is making a half-assed effort.

Brees was not traded. He was a free agent that wasn't brought back by San Diego.

I don't think anyone outside of Oakland thought Palmer was a franchise QB when he forced his way out of Cincinnati.

Your point about Cam staying motivated is valid, but I don't think the team is so bad that it's going to demotivate him. As long as he's our QB we'll at least be right around middle of the pack, which will be just enough for him to keep trying harder to will us over the hump. And maybe one day he'll be able to do it.

Drew Brees and payton Manning off the top. Both had serious injury question marks though.

I thought of those two, but...

Drew Brees was all but tossed out of San Diego. Brees wanted to stay but they only offered him $2 million in salary and the rest was in incentives. San Diego was ready to move on to Rivers. That wasn't Brees saying he wanted to leave, that was San Diego asking him to leave.

Same with Peyton Manning. Peyton clearly wanted to stay in Indy, but he was released (or the Colts didn't pick up an option or something like that). It wasn't Peyton demanding out of Indy, it was Indy sending him on his way.

Brees was a FA and almost went to Miami. SD felt better about Rivers
