Clayton: Clausen is Trade Worthless

When Randy Moss was still playing excellent football he was traded for a third round draft pick. Trading in the NFL is not the blockbuster scenarios that it is in other sports.

Read option QBs shouldn't have pocket passers as back up.

I was listening to a sports radio guy in philly saying the eagles needs to do that also. So he might come off the board earlier especially with team like the 9ers that's about to get rid of Smith. Plus unlike us they can gamble on some of their low picks.Get EJ Manuel if he's there in the 4th for some reason

But we're talking about teams not willing to give up even a 7th rounder for him. That's really worthless, my man!I'm no Clausen fan but this thread is misleading. In the NFL most players are nearly trade worthless, especially backups.

You're right. If Jimmy were a mobile QB he could throw it out of bounds from anywhere, not just standing in the pocket.

Plus he can't run the read option and pick up positive yards with his feet. You're right. If Jimmy were a mobile QB he could throw it out of bounds from anywhere, not just standing in the pocket.

Hurney drafted a QB late in the 2nd round that was a value pick at that spot and he did not pan out.
Go check how many 1-2 round QB's have been busts.
I swear. Some if you hate so many aspects of this team that calling yourself a fan is laughable.

With Shula, I can see us placing a heavier emphasis on the power run game, similar to the latter part of last season. We don't need to find a backup running QB just because there are a few option plays in the playbook.
With Gettleman, I can't really see him keeping Clausen around...but we do have this little issue with the salary cap. We can't go willy nilly in FA to find a capable QB to backup Cam. And picking up a QB in the draft (especially with this class) would be an absolute waste. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Pickles was still on this team come week 1 next season. That, or we find a REALLY cheap veteran FA. It's a sad situation...but not a dire need.

Hurney drafts Clausens. Schneider drafts Wilsons.

Okay, I did. 1st & 2nd round QBs from 2008 - 2011.
2011: Newton, Locker, Gabbert, Ponder, Dalton, Kaepernick. No real busts there.
2010: Bradford, The Golden Calf of Bristol and Clausen. 2 busts out of 3 players
2009: Stafford, Sanchez, Freeman, White. No real busts there, not even White can be considered because he hasn't played.
2008: Ryan, Flacco, Brohm, Henne. 1 bust (Brohm) of 4.
Total "bust" factor: 3 of 16 (18.75%)
Guess it all comes down to your definition of a "bust."
I also think it probably comes down to your definition of a "fan," also.
