I don't remember a contract as bad as the one that Hurney gave DWill.....ever. Maybe I am mistaken, but I can't recall off the top of my head.
I think Stewart's was worse. It is heavily backloaded with guaranteed money. That is never a good idea.

They just continue to harp on it even though has no current affect on the team.

Then we can sign all the free agents.

Yeah.
So we are $16M over (although another article says $11M)
Gamble Edwards Williams and Nakamura cuts will get us $17M
Gotta sign a backup QB for $1M so we are even after all that.
We can cut Gross for another $6.7...but would need to replace him with a FA so we will keep him
We can restructure Gross and Beason for some amount.
Basically all our free agent money will come from Gross and Beason depending on what we do with them.
If those numbers are right we should have a few million to spend.
The total amount of contracts for 2013 is just under $136 million. However, there are more than 53 total contracts due to having to sign extra players in 2012 when players went on IR. During the offseason only the top 53 contracts count towards the cap so as of now the cap number is right at $132 million. With an estimated cap of $121 million that puts the Panthers over by $11million.
If they cut Gamble, R Edwards, Nakamura, Hangartner, and G Williams; trade D Williams and restructure Gross, plus cuts here and there of players they don't plan in keeping that would put the team at about $104 million.
With about $4 million for draft picks and another $4 million for in season signings that would leave about $9 million to sign free agents. ( including in house free agents).

During the offseason, I believe only the top 51 are counted. Just before the season starts, that expands to all 53.
