Long story short, I am going to the Dominican Republic in a few weeks, and want to take as many pictures as possible while there.
Neither me nor the lady are good at photography, so we don't need all the bells and whistles, but we do want something that will take good shots, will last a while, is not too cumbersome, and does not break the bank.
Iphone cameras just don't cut it.
Looking now, and hope to purchase in the next week or so. Help a huddler out.

Do you want just a normal digital camera or one with interchangeable lenses like a DSLR?
Point and shoot. Want to stay under 250 if possible.

and all of these (the pacific)
and these (cambodia)
also these (laos)
and last these (peru)
...all were taken with the Sony NEX-5. it's a DSLR so you've got solid minolta tech behind it, it's the most compact DSLR currently on the market that's worth a damn, and it's point and shoot if you like it to be. should run you around ~350 without any attachments (comes with a lens of course) and it's well worth it.
