I know this is a bit of a re-post, but I couldn't find the old thread, and I wanted an updated one.

Long story short, I am going to the Dominican Republic in a few weeks, and want to take as many pictures as possible while there.

Neither me nor the lady are good at photography, so we don't need all the bells and whistles, but we do want something that will take good shots, will last a while, is not too cumbersome, and does not break the bank.

Iphone cameras just don't cut it.

Looking now, and hope to purchase in the next week or so. Help a huddler out.

canon g12 is a badass little machine... around $400... good build quality... actually operates like a camera (not a computer.) Lots of options if you ever want to use them. Best point and shoot i've ever used.

Lumix TS4. This camera is perfect for families. Waterproof down to 40 feet (takes amazing pictures under water), shockproof (can drop camera from 12 feet). It has picture stabilizer and it records amazing videos and it also has a built in GPS in case u get lil lost. I love Lumix TS.

...all were taken with the Sony NEX-5. it's a DSLR so you've got solid minolta tech behind it, it's the most compact DSLR currently on the market that's worth a damn, and it's point and shoot if you like it to be. should run you around ~350 without any attachments (comes with a lens of course) and it's well worth it.
