theory. reality. ancedotal and outliers. metrics and conjecture.

mix and match to your delight. at some point you have to make the rubber meet the road and do something besides flexing your 2.1 Psych Major to compensate your lack of economic understanding.

i am not a psychologist but from what i understand GD is associated with mental illness and encompasses the gamut of delusions while dunning-kruger relates to a more common phenomenon (at least in american society)

anyway the dunning-kruger thing is a bit tongue in cheek as i don't doubt that madhatter is good at finance or whatever. the problem is that he, and others, seem to believe that experience in a particular niche sector and knowledge within a limited scope of academia qualifies them to not only weigh in on real things in other fields that they've never actually studied, but to also ignore (and/or insult) those who do in fact have a working knowledge of the given subject. now keep in mind i don't think you have to have a degree within a given field before you can comment on it, but you will in fact have to substantiate your claims (particularly when they run counter to the bulk of data and theory). if your defense of "hurrdurr welfare is for lazy people" is limited to "um i got a 1500 on the SAT therefore....." or "what are you some kind of ivory tower elitist" then it's safe to say that you're completely full of poo and need to stop posting about things which you have not even made the attempt to understand

See the problem is that you do in fact think that you're better and above everyone here... you've flat out said so and your attitude and tone suggests it in every single post you make.

You can deride all you want "real world experience"... I've seen it over and over by people like you who do in fact have that "high and mighty" attitude bc they've got this or that degree... as if that makes them the end-all-be-all of opinions.

The fact is I don't think you have any real life experience... as in zero... and don't get me wrong, there's absolutely nothing wrong with getting all the degrees in the world and studying all your life, that's not what I'm saying... what I'm saying is, don't look down on others, as you obviously do, for not having academic credentials... it will bite you in the ass or you'll look like an ass, which in your case, I'd say it's probably both.

i specifically said in the post that you quoted that you do not have to have a degree in a given field in order to make a valid argument; you just have to be able to substantiate your argument. you cannot, and you continue to attempt to make this about me when in fact the hangup here is that you have a history of pulling arguments directly from your ass; arguments with no factual foundation.

The fact is I don't think you have any real life experience... as in zero...

the fact is you can't substantiate this either! again, provide the foundation for your assertions or stop posting about things that you do not understand.

but you guys he read something in a book that his professor reiterated loudly! it must be true!

“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'”

So essentially what you're saying is that you can't agree with me at all that some portion of society is lazy, and that portion, if given a hand out, would prefer to take the hand out instead of finding gainful employment simply because I didn't quote some study or research paper?. Because that's literally all I said. I didn't say, as u accused, that people on welfare are lazy or any such nonsense...

I think I know who has the bias here.

What's the difference? What is a lot? Might be more to me than to you... Or less. I wasn't making any assumptions at all as to a percentage, just making a point that some people, probably a lot of people, when given a hand out, will choose to take it and run and not put the effort into job hunting, etc that those who aren't getting a hand out would... And even more especially those on the lower end of the wage scale who aren't making much working anyway.
