Honestly I'm done with pre-season hype from the players.  Keep your mouth shut and get the job done on the field.  We all know the talent this team has.  It's time to translate that into wins.

It's the same old poo every offseason, and yet, they seem to disappoint.

I just love hearing how bad we suck in the secondary....we haven't even played a damn game yet. Could we suck? Yes. But we don't know how well (or if) our young guys have improved.

As was pointed out in the article, they don't have to be top 5 to significantly improve and get into the playoffs.

I'm not buying the hype.  But that doesn't mean I don't like the confidence.   We added 2 rookie tackles, we get a Pro Bowl LB back that did not show much last year in the few games he played (that demonstrated he was back to Pro Bowl form) and we lost an under-rated corner.  Pressure by the front 7 could allow the secondary to "get by" but top defenses have a shut down corner.

Rooting for it to happen does not change facts.  Our defense played very well in the second half of the season but still finished #18.  Until those rookie questions are answered and until someone steps up (or gets added to roster) in the secondary the best adjective for our predicted defense would be "adequate", not "best".

Step 1 is believing. Step 2 is executing. Step 3 is making it happen. I'd rather the team keep their mouths shut and show up in week 1 ready to kick Seattle's ass. Just be the best defense in week 1 and I will be thrilled.

Why does everyone outside of this board think nakafugingmura is going to be our starting safety he won't make it through camp with the young athletic players we have now

In all honesty it will be hard to be top 5.  With playing the Saints twice, Atlanta twice, and teams like New England who puts up tons of points it is hard not to give up that many points.  But we can win the games by outscoring them.  Look at the second Atlanta and Saints games, we gave up points late holding on to 20 point leads.  For example at the end of the third quarter against Atlanta it was 23-0.  I know we want to have a killer attitude on defense but it is also appropriate to play more prevent when you are way ahead.

This defense is finally ready. A couple things have changed, but the most important thing is accountability. I saw Luke Kuechly and Hardy be stern leaders on the field last year, not "rah rah you will get them next time" poo

I'm not really worried about our secondary, the guys that were here last season finished strong and we added two good vets to the mix. If we can get the kind of pressure we expect to get on the QB, we don't need a lock-down secondary.

If Lotulelei is who we think he is and Dwan, CJ and the Kraken pick up where they left off last year, our defensive line will be one of the best in the league and if 52 and 58 can stay healthy we'll have the best LB group in the league.
