McDermott: Injuries in secondary prevented Panthers from playing nickel down the stretch.

McDermott: considered putting Thomas Davis at safety

McDermott: LB Jordan Senn also offered to help in the secondary.

this is how bad it got.

so what do we do?

hmmm...go for it on fourth (when your team has a 81% success rate on 3rd or 4th down and 1), keep the ball in your hands and maybe score another TD...running more time off the clock

or....

kick another 3 and put the other offense in a situation where it's guaranteed they're going to drive downfield and pass on your secondary in an away game against a charged up team and fan base.

i just....ummm...i don't know.

We just restructured Charles Johnson for a reason.

Something is happening behind the scenes.

it'd be really interesting to see how TD would play back there.

Way too slow now to play safety. He isn't built like he was in college anymore.

Any chance it involves getting rid of Rivera?  If not, I'm afraid it will be too little, too late. :(

The restructure was done last week, news just broke today.

I wanted to see Smitty put in the secondary.  That would have been awesome!

Thomas Davis is, was, and will always be a Strong Safety. And after 3 consecutive restructures of his right knee he still has the speed to play on the back end. Dude is probably the most freakish athlete in team history, second to only Julius Peppers.

it'd almost have to be obvious run situations playing in the nickel... which isn't a very large set of situations but maybe a flex option

He still looks fast as poo to me. He's running down skill players from behind still. Also, speed isn't a huge need at safety like it is at corner. 4.5-4.6 speed is perfectly acceptable

TD would literally kill some people as a safety.

Still fast enough to run down CJ Spiller though...

OK, now ask him to do that every other play.

TD has three less tackles than Keek (only one less solo tackle). He's been all over the fuging place and he's playing 3 downs. I don't know why you're under the assumption that he can't run around.

He's playing like a fuging athletic freak like he's always been.

chasing down running backs and tights ends is one thing.

Keeping up with the little WRs.... not so much.

I like the part about how we decided to kick a FG and trust our defense... talk about that some more Rayzor.
