x-post from /r/Panthers....how we're all feeling about Rivera

35 posts in this topic

Cowher had 6 winning seasons and made the playoffs 6 straight times in his first 6 seasons....

How you think that is a legit comparison is beyond belief.

You're right, they aren't.

Cowher inherited a 7-9 team that had a very talented roster and played in a terrible division.

Rivera took over one of the most pathetic teams in modern football with a depleted roster and tough division.

it's a good first step in redeeming himself, but that's about as far as i'm willing to go. i need to see this happen more often.

Not really, but I see you want to bitch about this...

Chuck Noll first three seasons..12-30

Bill Walsh  first two season   8-24

Tom Landry first five seasons 25-53

I am not comparing Rivera to these coaches, but they were given time to win.

Now that we have legit comparisons you can edit your other post and hope that Rivera is a future HOFer

If we played every week like his job was on the line, I'd say chalk us up for the playoffs.  We know how good we can be, but can we do it week-to-week?

I like when people compare Ron to coaches in the 70s and 80s before the salary cap and the invention/advent of free agency

So did John Fox and to this point Rivera isn't even on John Fox level....how sad is that?

I've learned that people will poo on Rivera just to poo on him.

Yea because its not like anyone can poo on his W-L record.

Or his coaching decisions such as calling a TO for your opponent to line up and kick a game winning FG against you.

They have to use coaches from the 70s and 80s, because if they don't, then the only coach they can point to is Gary Kubiak (And Bellichik if you stretch the parameters a little).  The people on the other side of the argument, however, have in excess of 60 examples they can cite.
