They are there to sell ads. The bigger the city the more proof you will find in the theory that whining about problems without presenting any reasonable solutions sells more advertising than any other approach. The GP loves to whine and therefore gravitates toward whiners with a "voice".
Strong men scare people. Crybabies with sympathy and empathy is what Gen Y feels comfortable with.
