false. the answer is the yamato (her sister ship, the musashi, would also have been an acceptable answer.) both were constructed with 18.1" guns, outclassing the best the USN had to offer by a full two inches. both were, however, obsolete before they ever left their slips, as the USN had established naval dominance through carrier power and rendering battleships effectively functionless for the remainder of the war.

this thread is now about world war two trivia.

going off of the previous commentary, which famous naval battle in june 1942 is considering the tipping point of the pacific theater of war in favor of the allied powers?

(for bonus points name the five aircraft carries sunk during the engagement)

Can you imagine if the Yamato and the Bismark had gone up against each other?  Oy.

The Battle of midway, it was fought by airplanes and ships stayed out of sight of each other. The battle of Guam was a land battle supported by naval bombardment.

Not sure if you're implying I did, but this was pretty basic stuff. I'm a huge history buff, specifically WW2 , Ancient Egypt, and Ancient Greece are my two favorites. I have a lot of neat artifacts from those periods too.
