The rankings quickly show the Panthers have the 3rd highest ranked defense in the league. Unfortunately, they also show the Panthers have one of the worst offenses in the league.

Week 5

Offense

Yards per game - 24th No Change
Points per game - 27th -10
Total Plays - 28th -15

Defense

Yards per game - 3rd +7
Points per game - 3rd +1
3rd down % - 15th +2

It is easy to get bogged down into the minutia of games, concentrating too much on smaller things that only add to the big picture. It is helpful to step back once in a while and look from an impartial birds eye view.

This week it is clear that the Panthers are a defensive ball club being held back by a lackluster offense.

I'm usually try not to be negative. But why in the heck did we hand the offense over to Shula! Just look at his track record. He was never good at conducting a good offense

God in 2011 it was the defense holding us back, why can't we put two good units on the field?

There are several posters on this message board who will be more than willing to tell you why Shula is the best possible decision.  They certainly defended his selection before the season, so I'm sure they'll now be able to tell you how the Giants game proved that he's a genius, provided the players execute of course!

i'm convinced that ron doesn't have a copy of our offensive playbook.  he has no clue about that side of the ball.  no surprise that he d is performing well because history shows he's been a good coordinator.

It's impossible for a good defensive coach not to understand offense

Nothing is impossible when it comes to Ron's incompetence.

EDIT:  I removed my post.

Didn't want to hijack this thread with another QB thread.

Sorry.

Hopefully I beat the storm.

Rivera promoted Shula because it was the "safe" thing to do.  Now Rivera's job is in danger, the season is in danger of being on the brink of meaningless, and the team is in danger of being blown the hell up.

How many times have we been down to the red zone and blown our own feet off? We outgained the Cardinals by a huge margin in yards, and we weren't playing from way behind until the very end. The playcalling hasn't been anything to write home about, but the offense is doing a fantastic job of effing up every opportunity they get with drops, penalties, poor blocking and bad decisions.
