if the garage isn't heated, it may even be too cold for the dogs.  laundry rooms and bathrooms may be the best option.

as one who lives in a winter wonderland...I can't help but laugh at the reactions of places when they get a little taste of it.

That's ok, we laugh when you guys bitch about 90+ weather.

Practically every school system in metro Atlanta is closed tomorrow. Not delayed...closed.

Things are getting a little ridiculous.  I mean, I can sort of see CMS on a delay to keep the kiddies from waiting for the bus in frostbite conditions.  What is daycare's excuse?

Their workers probably have kids that go to school and now the parents need to be home on a two hour delay as well.

You will find out in a few years.

The wind chill is supposed to be around 6degrees in the morning here on the coast. That's the coldest that I've seen it here since I moved here 4 years back. I basically grew up on a ski resort so this isn't poo for me but people around here act like they're going to freeze to death just starting their cars in the morning.

Kids waiting for school buses in dangerous cold.

Buses not starting.

Heat on some of these buses is a joke.

Pipes bursting in this old, under-insulated school buildings.

A two hour delay helps a bit with some of those types of issues.

Part of me says "meh, pussies", but I can look at these things from the inside also.

And yes, we aren't used to this down here so that is certainly a part of it.  Most of the kids at my school don't have clothing to deal with this type of bitter cold.

And yes, two hours doesn't make that big a difference, but for a lot of kids they will be warmer at school than they will at home.

Double edged sword, and "the powers that be" will be bitched at for whatever decision they make.

I have no idea why schools and all are delayed for tomorrow morning... it's not going to be wet/snow/ice as far as I know. It's rained some this morning, but that will be off the roads by this evening I would think... this is dry air moving in.

I mean it's going to be cold, but nothing like what the midwest is seeing where it's WAY below zero... not dangerous iow.

Temps supposed to get down to single digits in the morning with windchills at or below zero.

Their concern is for kids waiting for the bus before sunrise. Remember that we don't have temps like that here and most kids don't even have coats, etc for temps that cold.

Just precautionary.

There are over 100,000 kids in the CMS school system.  The people whose job is to make sure the heat is on in the schools - and more importantly, that the buses are going to start will be reporting at the usual times.  It's much easier for a small school system that doesn't have the number of buses or the numbers of routes or the shear numbers of kids and staff to not worry about the what ifs.  I was surprised to get the call today, but I'm actually glad that if they were going to make the decision, that they do it early and get the word out there.  As far as the day cares go - yeah, a lot DO follow the school system's schedule and whatever they do.  But there comes a time when somebody needs to have some brains and say - we don't need to do it this time.  Yeah - staff probably have kids in school, but I guarantee that more of their clients don't and need to be at work at the regular time.

Triad area schools were cancelling evening activities, had me laughing.  Little Jim Bob, Jr. can't stand outside in 6 degree weather waitin' on a bus, nor play basketball the night before.

Schools always go the conservative route. Me and my girls will get some extra snooze time.
