CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

The parents will blame the car manufacturer and the school bus driver.

I was in traffic court a few years ago (let my registration lapse) when a fourteen year old girl was there for something similar (don't remember the details).  Mom defended her as a 'good girl'.  Girl was like 'whatever'.

Judge ripped into both of them pretty hard.  Questioned the mom's parenting skills.  Called the kid a spoiled brat (among other things), hit them with a hefty fine and - if I remember correctly - some community service type penalties for the girl.

She wasn't quite so 'whatever' when he got done with her.
