You are far from a realist. If you were, you would have already recognized the situation we are in at the present and are trying to get better for the future. You are a huge negative person. It's so funny how these types of people always call themselves "realists". You put the real realists to shame.

I'm not sure why no one here can admit right now our receivers are much worse than last year, and probably will be next season.

Realist
1. a person who tends to view or represent things as they really are.

So what's the reality of our wr position?

I'm not sure why there are people here that think our cap is just dandy and we have millions of money to spend.

To get a group of receivers that don't negatively affect our cap in the future, but can still positively contribute right now. Are you really this dense?

I'm certain you can't find proof of one person here that thinks that. I also think it's silly to misrepresent others statements, facts, so you can win some internet argument. Our cap is bad, but it doesn't mean we couldn't have kept Smith, and signed a solid receiver to boot. If you for some reason don't think we had the cap (we did), then maybe the answer was for Gettleman not to franchise Hardy (his choice).

In other words stop being so defensive. Are you Gettleman's brother in law or something?

Yes keep a 35 year old receiver with diminishing skills that is being paid more than he's worth. How does that help our cap?

I'm a realist, I don't hold my tongue, I don't sugarcoat poo, and I don't give a fug what anybody thinks. I keep telling you people that.

Signing Jason Avant is a down grade from Lafell. What happened to giving the new guys a chance, isn't that what y'all alleged was Gettlemans plan? So why are we visiting with old mediocre receivers? Sounds like desperation to me.

Gettleman can sign fuging Lil Wayne to play middle linebacker after releasing Luke and some idiot here will say, but dude he's wayyy cheaper and we have no money.

You keep trying to make sure everyone understands (i.e. they think), that you don't care what they think? Lol, I hope you realize how silly that sounds.

FWIW...

2013:

Smith/LaFell/Ginn vs Cotchery/Avant/Underwood

old- 149 Rec 1,928 Yd 12.9 ypc 14 TD 15 drops 1 fumble
new- 108 Rec 1,489 Yd 13.8 ypc 16 TD 7 drops 1 fumble

notes:

-old guys played 2013 with Pro Bowl QB Cameron Newton

-new guys played 2013 with Roethlisberger, Vick, Files, Freeman, & Glennon

-old guys are getting paid substantially more than the new guys in 2014, not to mention the enormous options that Smith would've been on the books for in 15 & 16.

Maybe, just maybe, Dave knows what he is doing? If he signs Avant he will have essentially filled the top 3 WR positions with guys who are veterans & had very similar production at about 1/10th of the cost. 3 vets to make up the lost production & help Cam groom the WRs that will be drafted. At a fraction of the cost.

I can tell you how it hurts us this year. We paid our best receiver to leave. I guess the answer is signing receivers a couple years younger, and a hell of a lot less proven? Cotchery had 20 touchdowns in ten years, 10 coming in a single anomalous season. Avant has a total of 3,600 yards in eight years. Underwood has put up a staggering 1,000 yards in four.

There are other ways to fix your cap then to weaken one of your worst positions. Not franchising Hardy would have been the easiest.

That's a big gap.

That's a big gap, and I don't think it will grow smaller next season. We don't have any downfield threats to let our current receivers do work (their part) as career number threes (and fours).
