Am I the only one who is not surprised at all?

#2734065 D-Will in shock over loss of receiving corp

D-Will should take a pay cut before he opens his mouth like this.  You are part of the problem dude.

#2729800 Panthers checking out more QB's

Posted by hepcat on 07 April 2014 - 09:42 AM

Panthers need a reliable backup long-term with Cam's playing style.  It's foolish to think he's going to be as durable as he has been in the past going forward.  Just like the Redskins would be foolish to trade Kirk Cousins for that same reason.  Derek Anderson is 32 and might be able to win a game here or there, but he's not going to carry your team if Cam blows his ACL in the preseason.  I hope they grab a young QB with some potential to back up Cam.

#2727147 Adrian Wilson Released

He's 34 right?  Not sure he has anything left at his age coming off injury after missing last season.  Pats don't seem to think he has anything left.  He was a hell of a safety for a lot of seasons though.

#2722080 Proehl at Oregon State today

Posted by hepcat on 31 March 2014 - 10:28 AM

It's interesting how many of this forum wanted Tavon Austin last year but this year Cooks, an equal or better player, is all a sudden too small.

Tavon Austin would have probably been a 2nd round pick in this years draft with all the talent at WR.  He was just considered the best available WR in 2013's draft (in reality it turned out Keenan Allen was the best).  Uninformed fans wanted him because he was the best available WR.

Jets or Raiders.  He's not coming to Carolina

#2719317 Rivera says Steve Smith wasn't a distraction

Posted by hepcat on 28 March 2014 - 10:58 AM

The reason we cut Steve Smith won't be leaked until the players, front office turns on the GM.

That could be as soon as Week 4 next season when the Panthers are 0-3 because of their anemic passing attack and Steve Smith is tearing it up in Baltimore.  #thingsthatarelikelytohappen

I'm still hopeful the Panthers add a playmaking WR in the draft though.

#2719304 Rivera says Cam wasn't consulted in WR moves

Posted by hepcat on 28 March 2014 - 10:43 AM

Offseason is not over yet, everyone calm the fug down.  As it stands right now, Cotchery > LaFell, Underwood should = Ginn's production, and the top receiver (Greg Olsen) is still on the roster!

Carolina had the 26th ranked offense in yards per game.  I think Cam understands that staying "status quo" on that kind of offense is BAD BUSINESS.

#2718338 The Kony Ealy Gambit

Posted by hepcat on 27 March 2014 - 12:26 PM

I think the Panthers would jump for joy if they could get another solid pass-rusher in this draft.  I guarantee you they are looking to part ways with either Hardy or Johnson by next offseason because they can't afford both.

#2717072 I just want everyone to remember one thing from 2013...

Posted by hepcat on 26 March 2014 - 12:54 PM

At many points during the 2013 season, the Panthers defense had as many as 5 rookies on the field at a single time.  All players Dave Gettleman brought to the Panthers.  Those players are, if you can't remember:

DT - Star Lotulelei

DT - Kawaan Short

LB - AJ Klein

CB - Melvin White

S - Robert Lester

Next year we might see something similar on offense.  In his first year as GM, Gettleman brought in players that immediately impacted the defense.  As bad as I thought he handled the Steve Smith situation, the man has a keen eye for talent.  Gettleman will get players that will make an impact immediately.  I fully expect the Panthers to be a playoff contender again next season, despite all the change.

#2716916 Dark horse pick for our first rounder... Mass Suicide would be had by all

This would be oh-so Panthers.

#2715223 This time Rivera talking generally on PFT. Reading the tea leaves: Don't...

Posted by hepcat on 24 March 2014 - 10:19 PM

Really not going to matter who catches the ball as long as Cam has time to throw.  Someone will be open.  I hope they get a WR in the first round and go O-Line in the 2nd and 3rd.  Really need to add some talent on the offensive side of the ball especially in the trenches...

Favorite signing - Cotchery.  Least favorite - Harper.  Cotchery is a big upgrade over LaDrops.

#2712187 Rookies the Panthers are interested in

Posted by hepcat on 22 March 2014 - 12:25 PM

They aren't drafting Boyd after signing Joe Webb.  QB position is set.  Wouldn't surprised to see them take a LB in a later round like AJ Klein last year with Davis's career on a year-by-year basis at this point.
