#2579882 Next Up: The Unis... Ideas?

Posted by John Morgan on 01 January 2014 - 08:37 PM

Happy 2014, everybody!

I make a new Hugo poster every year, and this is "Hugo 2014".  It's obviously based upon the old "Return of the Jedi" poster, and I've included a side-by-side comparison if you've forgotten what it looked like.  I've also included a Facebook cover photo; feel free to use/share 'em!

The Hornets come home THIS YEAR.  Wild, wonderful, stuff :)

#2419378 Hornets Logo/Color Rumors

Posted by John Morgan on 09 October 2013 - 08:01 AM

Morning, gang!

Some potential (I want to stress...POTENTIAL) colors might've started their slow leak into the public sphere last night.  I'll save y'all any extra blabbering and just repost what I put on the 'We Beelieve' page.

Last night, I posted an interesting little tidbit from Chris Creamer's renown SportsLogos forum.  It's all a rumor at this point, but a well-respected member of the community posted the color swatches seen here.  He added that these were designated as the colors for the Charlotte Hornets, starting in 2014-15, and that he'd seen them in the NBA's 'Official Color Standards Document'.  Now again, I haven't been able to completely verify anything yet, but I figured I had to share what might be the start of some really exciting news for the Queen City's b-ball fanatics.
In last night's comments, there seemed to be 2 common observations: 1) the Teal and Purple aren't Teal and Purple enough and 2) What's with the Carolina Blue?!?  I've done a quick PicStitch below, and hopefully it'll help allay any concerns (if this little leak does indeed turn out to have something to it):
At the top, you see the original screen grab from the SportsLogos forum.  If you read the fine print, you'll see that the poster ('Conrad'...if you're out there, gimme a holler!) states that the Color Standards Document designates the Carolina Blue as a 'uni-only pinstripe'.  More on that in a second.
In the far left picture, you see the original, official Charlotte Hornets logo we all know and love.  In the far right picture, you see a slightly more 'saturated' image.  What I did: using the 'dropper' tool in Photoshop, I simply sampled the colors from the color swatches, then placed them side-by-side with their predecessors from the original logo.  I think you'll agree: they're identical.
Finally, the center picture.  I posted this in the 'comments' section of last night's original post.  It features LJ, but more apropos of our current conversation, it features our original jersey...complete with Carolina Blue stripe (as well as a deeper, more Royal Blue stripe, as well as a Green stripe).  Again, this aligns with what last night's image lays out, in that the Carolina Blue would be used as a 'uni-only pinstripe'.
As for the gray and black...y'alls' guesses are as good as mine.
Now again, I want to stress: this is still 100% speculation at this point, and if there's one thing we've learned these last few years, it's that you don't count your chickens before they've hatched.  That being said, this jibes pretty perfectly with some of the things I've heard from people in and around the rebranding process.  I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
In any event, I can, beyond a shadow of a doubt, guarantee y'all of one thing: it's gonna be an exciting couple of years around these parts.

#2300450 Hornets concept thread

Posted by John Morgan on 26 July 2013 - 02:19 PM

Yeah, if they're going to make the logo a different color I'm still thinking it's gonna be more purple than light blue for some reason. Maybe wishful thinking.

Also, good seeing you (for a minute) at the Hornets announcement last week haha

Dear Lord...let me apologize for whatever sloppy inanity I was responsible for.  I'm bad at keeping my thoughts organized in the best of conditions; add free booze and the return of the Hornets, and I'm a goner ;)

#2296488 Final uniform contest thread

Posted by John Morgan on 23 July 2013 - 10:43 AM

Good to hear!  I was worried about you after the Hornets name was returned.  I thought to myself, "What the fug is this guy going to do with his spare time now"

Great job with the Hornets, and you had a lot to do with what happened and we as fans of the Hornets appreciate you and I hope you take great pride in what you were able to accomplish.

Thanks, Teeray!  It was a wild, wonderful little trip.  That being said, no one is more happy than myself that it's (pretty much) done.  It was making me a littttle insane...it's really nice to go back to a (semi) normal existence (I only say 'semi', because I fear I'm being overly complementary if I claim to have ever been completely 'normal'  ;) )

#2296446 Final uniform contest thread

Posted by John Morgan on 23 July 2013 - 10:23 AM

Morning gang!

Don't usually post over here, but I run the "We Beelieve: Charlotte...take back your Hornets!" Facebook page.  Anyway, I've been waiting until we got to the final round to post about the uniform contest (I try my hardest to keep the page as Hornets-centric as possible), but when I lowered the boom last night, man...people responded.

So far it's had around 46,000 unique views, along with over 300 shares.  Just figured that after the killer job of hyping this thing you've been doing over here y'all might be interested, and I wanted to let y'all know we're doing our part to finally bring some sort of championship to the Queen City :D

#2292451 Bobcats Event Thursday Night

Posted by John Morgan on 19 July 2013 - 09:48 AM

Just had to share a couple Tripucka pics...

The first one is the Starting Lineup figure he signed for me, and the second one is the man himself.  Last night couldn't have been any more amazing.  All the players were super affable (I asked Dell if Seth was coming to training camp: "Maybe...it's looking good!"; I chatted for a solid minute about the Dee Brown block in '93 with Kendall...amazing stuff).  And yeah.  KELLY FRIGGIN' TRIPUCKA.

#2148450 Hornets won't happen

Posted by John Morgan on 01 March 2013 - 10:10 AM

I also figured the influence of people like Mayor Foxx, Dell, Muggsy, would at least have some impact on the final decision. Also, Steve Martin recently responded to some fans asking about the name change and his responses definitely leave the door open, if not infer, that it will happen.

Exactly, Proudiddy. The amount of circumstantial evidence that's been piling up, coupled with the actions of the folk you just rattled off (as well as many others, many of whom had brushed the issue off prior to the past couple months) just seems like too much to ignore.

I hear "they're doing it! :D" and "they're not doing it :(" anecdotes from people on a daily basis. Literally...every, single, day. Most of them claim some unique, insider-insight. By no means am I attempting to denigrate or devalue Zod or Daddy Uncle (what a weird statement that is :D), but I just don't think anything that anyone says, with the exception of Michael himself, really amounts to much of anything at this point. Here's what we know: MJ saying 'NO' could've stopped this thing dead in it's tracks at any point in the last 3 years. But he just won't say it. Not only will he not say it, but he's letting the issue drag out. He's actually mentioning the Hornets brand BY NAME at this point. Pick any local/regional/national poll you want...it doesn't matter. The desire of the population at large is overwhelmingly clear. Mike knows this, and he knows we know this. It does him no good to show his hand at this point; there's still another team playing under the 'Hornets' banner. The odds of us hearing something before season's end were always slim, so he has no reason not play it as close to the vest as possible for the next couple months.

Obviously, I'm playing this from a 'glass-half full' angle, because of my stance in the whole thing. But this thread is the perfect example of my point...we have all the momentum, support, and passion in the world, but it all boils down to a 'he said/she said' thing until the man himself says something with some sense of finality. All that being said...I'd still be SHOCKED if they screwed this up.

#1734879 Bobcats Rebrand Update Thread (Real Charlotte Fans-Censorship Free Edition)

Posted by John Morgan on 18 April 2012 - 11:53 AM

We're really close to getting our Hornets back, gang; that's the bottom line. Pretty much everywhere you look other than here, it's pure, unbridled excitement and optimism.

This thread has gotten really, really ugly.

We all know who's to blame, but let's try our best to avoid taking their bait anymore (this coming from someone who's caved in far too many times himself).

Any objective observer would agree that this is a topic worthy of reasoned discussion. 2 people are playing at our emotions/impulses, all in an effort to derail such a dialogue. Let's stop falling for it, and start trying to be grown ups again.

For the 99.9% of us who aren't here to spread hate and ignorance, let's reel this thing back in...NO MORE TROLL FODDER!!! :D

#1734649 Bobcats Rebrand Update Thread (Real Charlotte Fans-Censorship Free Edition)

Posted by John Morgan on 18 April 2012 - 10:00 AM

it was just like panthers games, the place to be seen, something to brag about, a status symbol

like i said, too young to understand because you weren't there or you were still drinking out of a sippy cup

remember the panthers 1-15 season? how many people showed up at that last game against new england?

2002 with a new coach, the #2 pick in the draft would have been perfect to rebrand to something more carolina-centric, and not a fictional animal since black panthers don't exist

charlotte was just as much of a transplant city then as it is now, and like the panthers, half the people in the coliseum were pulling for the other team

I'm 30. My dad had season tickets from day one to the end. I can almost guarantee you I went to more Hornets games than you ever watched on TV. I know you're just trying to bait me, and it's silly and childish for me to even respond, but yeah. There's that.

And saying that those early years represented nothing more than a 'see/be seen' mentality; honestly (and I didn't think this was possible), but that only further invalidates any opinion you ever state on anything.

You're fighting a losing battle. That part is fine; I admire those who scratch and claw until the final bell. But your strategy is different. You've been hurling personal attacks and busted-logic/falsehoods for weeks. I would think someone as sage and (apparently) elderly as yourself would've learned to operate above the fray at this point in their life.

It's disappointing and pathetic.

Now...say something ridiculous!!! :D
